How To Take Control Of Your Life

Updated on October 12, 2011

Ten Ways To Take Charge Of Your Life

Take charge of your life and regain control by following 10 simple hard and fast rules to guide you on your path, it takes a small amount of effort, but a lot of mind power to stick to the positive side of life and this is where you will learn to take control of your own life and head off in the direction you want in life.

Just think, there is no such thought processes as negative thinking, only the positive beliefs that surround you at any given time, positivity breeds motivation and success and that's the all important number one ingredient of the means to take charge in your own life. Practical solutions will help you think positive and that is good.

Number 1 - Look after yourself, this is a very obvious one, but a good one, as feeling good in yourself comes from eating healthy, taking regular exercise and resting and sleeping when you need it, a good balance in these areas helps immensely with your positive thinking.

Number 2 - Appreciate the good things in life, by looking at the things in your life that you are grateful for, you can remove elements of stress and daily challenges by reminding yourself about the good things that you already have, this one works well if you do a quick think early in the morning over a nice herbal tea.

Number 3 - Prove to yourself, instead of assuming, By looking for proof you are getting straight to the heart of problems instead of letting them fester by making assumptions, dealing with something straight off the bat reduces stress and and will make you more assertive in future.

Number 4 - Don't use negative absolutes, If you say Never in every sentence or something like "You're always late" this can make some social situations seem worse than they are and can drive negative vibes through other related matters, so don't use them, the key is to be positive.

Number 5 - Ignore negative thoughts, Negative thoughts always get judged, because of the questions that they raise, so just ignore them, detach yourself from them.

Number 6 - Don't be afraid to say No, saying no is part of being assertive and can be a positive, especially if you always try and help others and leave yourself last, to say No is not being rude, you are merely saying I have other things to do which need to be done, you should know yourself whether you can do someone else's job and your own at the same time.

Number 7 - A hug goes a long way, a hug feels good, whether it's from your partner, friend, family member or even your pet, it is an instantly great way to pick yourself up when feeling down and the other person may like a hug too, so you hug 2 birds with one stone, there was an interesting research study that looked into an American waitress who touched a certain percentage of customers on the arm as she processed there checks, whilst others she did not touch them in any way and quite fascinating was it that she received higher tips from the ones she touched on the arm.

Number 8 - Meet more people, By being more social than you were previously is actually a good boost to get rid of any bouts of loneliness, try and surround yourself with shiny happy people and you can be sure of the positive energy that they will bounce back at you.

Number 9 - Help others, This is a good one really, to volunteer your time that can help others is a great reward and oddly enough it can help you in your own life with setting goals in the areas that need tweaking and improving upon, try it, volunteer today! You can give positive energy too, because you will receive it back in equal amounts.

Number 10 - Change directions at selected times, This is for when you know you are entering into a negative thought space or situation that you just know will end in negativity, you can choose to change direction and go for the comfortable route or try something new completely, going for a walk or sitting in a rocking chair to think are two quick ideas, but anything can change the mood and affect your positivity, so try new things and build on what you find out.

Taking charge comes from within, so be the boss of your own mind and never conform to the negatives of twisted negativity, as a positive mind gets you where you want to be and that's more important than living your life in regrets.
