9 Educational Toys for Toddlers

Updated on August 3, 2014

Toddlers are SO Curious! Toys that spark curiosity are perfect gifts!

Any toy that makes you do a double (or triple) take will most likely be a great toddler toy. All my kids, as toddlers, have loved toys that are bright, "touch-able" and fun to investigate. My toddlers were naturally curious so buying toys that double as educational didn't matter. To my toddlers, a toy was a toy whether it was educational or not.

Just so you know, the colorful water filled block set seen to your right is featured right below and ships from Amazon.

Blocks with Liquid Waves

I'm an adult and *I* want to play with these blocks! You can't go wrong with translucent liquid colors in geometric shapes. These are fun in the light too.

While writing this my youngest daughter saw the picture of these blocks and said "OH - I want to do THAT" and pointed.

What a fantastic set of blocks that are filled with colored water. You can move the water around, mix the colors together and build.

An Even More Stimulating Block Set

This toy stimulates all of the senses (except taste and smell).

Can you say FUN? Curiosity on steroids! Part block, part musical instrument, and part see through transparent colors. I really want some.

Books that Double as a Toy and a Puzzle

I love these "stuck on stories." The characters come with little suction cups on the backs so that you can stick them to the board book pages. Plus, you have to look closely at each character's shape when putting them away (which is a great little hidden puzzle).

Musical "ABC Bugs in the Garden" Set

Someone bought my daughter a smaller set (but it contained about half of the same pieces). The bug instruments are SO cute and you can store them in the drum. Great for music play.

Picture Me Grown Up Book

You can never start your child too young thinking about what they'll be and what life will be like when they are an adult.

This book has a slot for a slide in photo of your child. I bought the book for my then 2 year old and loved the idea of helping her think of herself as a doctor, or a veterinarian with hobbies and pets and a home of her own. It also has stickers that you can choose from for each page.

Wooden Dress Up Bear Family

This is a magnetic gender-neutral dress up set. We call our set "The Three Bears" because there's a Mommy Bear, a Daddy Bear and a Baby Bear.

The set comes with a Mama Bear, a Daddy Bear and a Baby Bear each with different faces and clothes. You can mix and match all the pieces, and it doubles as a puzzle when you clean all the pieces up.

Magnetic Dress Up Boy/Girl

I love these magnetic dress up doll/figure sets. The fireman is great for boys and the Julia doll for girls. We have several of the girl dolls at my house, and my girls both love them. They stand up and their clothing sticks to them by magnetic force.

Chunky Dot Paints

These paints are perfect for small hands, and there's very little mess. We love them at our house, and also use the dot marker coloring books (where you just color in all the dots on a sheet).

Deluxe Play Cube

This play cube has a different activity on each side (plus the top). It will provide hours of entertainment for any toddler (girl or boy). Just make sure you have a good space to keep it.
