The Greatest Gift
There is a gift within us,
it is the essence of us all,
The greatest gift of life itself,
of all the great and small.
Our God placed it deep inside,
a part of you and me,
It's seen in smiles, gentle hands,
and helps us each to be.
A loving spirit, the greatest gift,
to share with all we meet,
The soulful purpose of ourselves,
a joy to those we greet.
With a heartbeat, and precious breath,
so taken by a child,
Locked inside a welcome heart,
its purpose there, so mild.
If it is kept so hidden there,
not to be shared and duly shown,
The spirit seed, of which we need,
has no proof that it has grown.
If we let it out, and with a shout,
it's then now plain for all to see,
A true purpose in each of our being,
is so wonderful and so free.
No finer thought, nor warm salute,
displayed by a caring one,
Is this gift, a cheerful song,
in good deeds, as they are done.
Is not love, and by any name,
so embraced by its caring refrain,
Has not the world, of you and me,
then blessed, with so much to gain?
