A Miracle Medicine for Me

Updated on August 22, 2011

Miracle Drug for Me

Back in the late eighties, I had a severe problem with Gouty Arthritis. My joints were swollen and every part of my body ached in severe pain. I could hardly walk at times and to move an arm or hand meant a lot of excruciating pain . If I ate foods rich in protein or high in fat content, this caused me to suffer in the consequences. I had to watch everything that I ate because it might cause flair ups and wreak havoc on my joints. The increased uric acid in my body was the culprit and gradually over time, I had the condition slip up on my overall health. I will admit that I ate and ate at lots of fast food places over the years that I worked, and I thought it was more for convenience and being tired, that I made the choice to eat at those locations. After a few decades, I have finally come to the realization that diet and exercise do make a big difference in a person's health. I try to walk as much as possible nowadays. I began to take Allopurinol after I had gone to an orthopedic doctor about my swollen joints. He recommended my taking Allopurinol as a suggestion to see if that drug would help my condition. He told me that he took this for his medical needs and that I probably would like the results that he had experienced, and would need to continue taking he drug from that point onward.

I took this medicine because I trusted my physician and because I really was desperate in getting a help for my painful swelling joints. I'm very glad that I made this decision and today, after more than twenty years I have had little joint swelling and pain. You will need to check with your physician about the possibility for you taking this drug because of your personal health needs. I will list basic information about this miracle for me as follows:

Brand Names are Lopurin and Zyloprim. Allopurinol is a drug that is used to treat gouty arthritis, and high levels of uric acid contents in the human body, Certain forms of cancer require various forms of medication and Allopurinol may be used in the treatment of these that cause high uric acid content in the body. It treats hyperuricemia (excess uric acid in blood plasma). Uric acid is a breakdown from the production of certain proteins(purines)in the body.Uric acid forms crystals in a person's joints(Gouty Arthritis)and their tissues. This causes inflammation and pain. Allopurinol can also be used to prevent kidney stones and the activity of the enzyme that converts purines to uric acid. Uric acid levels may begin to fall after 2-3 days of use of this drug.It may return to normal levels after about a week.

It may take several months for the drug to take effect and the reduction of swelling and painful joints to subside. The FDA approved Allopurinol in1982. It is usually prescribed in 100 or 300 milligram doses. It should be taken with food to avoid stomach irritation. The side effects should be studied by those who may wish to attempt taking the drug and consultation with your physician will be necessary to see if your health condition will be approved in taking it.The side effects are usually minimal, but possible ones should be reviewed by all concerned.

If I could name one medication that has meant the most to me and my personal experience with all of my medical problems , it would be Allopurinol. It has helped me live a more normal life over the years and has truly been like my "miracle drug".
