Bullying: A Global Issue

Updated on January 24, 2013

Bullying

Ever heard that expression, sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me? Well, do you really think that quote works for everybody? Let me explain, bullying is a type of harassment that can be either mental or physical. To a lot of people cruel, mean, and bad words can hurt just as much as rocks would. This is a type of harassment a bully usually does. Bullies are people that pick on others just so they can look cool or feel dominant. Bullies pick on people who are younger, weaker, or even people that are mentally ill. The whole point of the bully is to feel dominant over someone, and show that they are in control or at least that's what they want you to be feeling. Bullying is not an uncommon issue, in fact it is not just in the United States it's all over the world. Any place you go you there can be a bully, but most of the bullies are at school or other places were you have to work with them and cooperate. Bullies want to show off that's the reason most of the bullies harass the victim in front of people. Bullying should not be taken lightly it is wrong, and something should be done about it.

What To Do

If you or someone that you know is being bullied immediately go tell an adult. Because if nothing is done the bully will continue to harass and hurt the victim. If you are at a place like school tell a teacher or the principal at your school. Go home and tell your parents to because it is important for them to know what's going on. Don't be ashamed to tell anybody that your being bullied because if you don't tell it will only get worse. Think this way if you don't get the courage to take a stand, then who knows how many other people might have to go through what you are going through. Keep a strong mind, and try to ignore verbal bullying until you have the chance to tell someone. Violence does not solve anything in fact it usually makes the situation even worse, because now the bully will most likely be after you. The best thing to do is talk to your parents and let them know everything.

Things To Watch Out For

Fear is the number one thing that bullies look for in their victims. If you have fear they know that they can easily manipulate you. Always act like you are not afraid of them and act like you have a lot of courage. Walk like you are not afraid and don't put your head down because that shows are are afraid even if your not. Bullies look for the weakest person in the pack so don't look like you are weak in fact don't even think about them just conquer your fear. Once they see you don't look afraid of them they will most likely not mess with you.
