Do you know your rights as a consumer?

Are you aware of all the consumer laws that are in place to protect consumers against fraud? There are many out there, more than I ever realized until I began reading a consumer law website.

ConsumerLawQA is thorough in explaining any and all laws that protect consumers. The site is run by a team of attorneys who specialize in this area, with the website offering free answers to all things related to consumer law.

The site even offers a quiz that tests one’s knowledge of consumer law. Some of the questions relate to debt, bankruptcy, fraud, and even ATM machines. I scored a 70%, which was rated as “fair,” so I guess I need to keep reading to educate myself more on my rights under consumer protection laws.

It’s really interesting to look over all the consumer tips, rights, and laws on the site. So many consumers are ignorant about what rights they actually have; they would probably be surprised. The purpose of ConsumerLawQA is to educate people and make them aware of these rights.

Ask questions for free

For those who have questions about their rights, this site is an excellent resource. Someone being bombarded with calls from debt collectors may not even know that there are laws to help with debt issues. Disputes about credit reports are addressed on this site. Many consumers experience problems with inferior vehicles, or “lemons,” being sold to them. This site covers lemon laws, bankruptcy laws, and a number of other important consumer protection laws.

Whatever question you might have, an attorney will answer. Even unwanted text messages fall under a law that protects consumers. The site shows several examples of questions asked by individuals. I read about a woman falling in a store and needing medical attention. When the store refused to pay her medical bills, she contacted ConsumerLawQA. What advice did the attorneys on the site give her? Check it out, along with other examples, on their website. Here are more of the areas that the site covers.

Take care of your money.

Financial Issues

Learn how to deal with those pesky debt collectors. And what protections are in place in regard to banks? From an issue as small as overdraft fees to something as big as a loan, there are laws to protect the customer.

Find out how to dispute incorrect credit reports or what steps to take if your identity is stolen. Protection laws can help consumers protect their financial status in the best way possible.

Telephone Rights

Consumer laws regarding the telephone protect consumers against calls from debt collectors as well as telemarketers. Even unwanted text messages are addressed. Are you aware of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act? There are laws in place to protect consumers from unwanted calls that when excessive become a form of harassment.

Shopping Fraud

Frequent cases of fraud run rampant on the used car lot. Other fraudulent practices can be challenged, such as faulty advertising and overcharging. Quibbles over buying contracts is another issue that this section covers.

Home & Auto Issues

Some of the rights related to home ownership have to do with mortgages and debt relief. For people having difficulty paying their mortgages, there are options such as modified loans and short sales. Besides protecting homeowners, laws are in place to protect renters who are unfairly treated, as well.

Much of consumer fraud involving vehicles is covered under the lemon laws. The site also looks at laws regarding vehicle warranties and safety bulletins.

Great information on this website!

It’s important to protect oneself from consumer fraud. Becoming more aware of existing consumer protection laws is a way to start. There are a number of consumer laws out there, and too many to mention here, but you can review all of them at ConsumerLawQA.

This website is really an informative and interesting read. While you're there, don’t forget to take the quiz!

I'll have to check in about the ATM machines. I got totally ripped off coming back to NC from CO. I had to pay a highway toll, but didn't have cash, so I used a dang gas station ATM. The dang thing charged me $2.98 PLUS another $2.50 from my bank. Grrr. Oh well. I won't EVER do that again. Thanks for sharing this info.

Terrific hub Victoria. Often a consumer question involves a small amount of money and therefore a consultation with an attorney just doesn't justify the cost. The site that you call attention to is a valuable resource for anyone who encounters consumer rights questions (and who doesn't). Thanks for a great job. I have bookmarked consumerlawqa. voted this hub up and useful.

These are things that I am sure people have little awareness. Thanks for sharing all this valuable information. I am going to pass this on to some people I know, vote up and share on Facebook.

ktrapp--You're welcome. I thought it was a great site. I love your question about incessant phone calls. One day the phone was ringing every 5 minutes, literally. I finally had to answer to tell them to STOP CALLING ME!!! Thanks for reading, ktrapp! Hey, didn't you get a Hub of the Day today. I'll have to check it out. :-)

I have never heard of this website before so thanks for bringing it to my attention. Perhaps during the next election I will post a question to them asking about my rights regarding incessant political phone calls with long-winded messages left on my voice mail. And now I have to go see what advice the lawyers gave to the woman falling in the store.
