Facts and Pointers for the Nervous and Shy

Updated on February 26, 2011

Do you feel nervous when she is around? Does your heart beat a little faster? Do you feel like you are too mature to be feeling the way you are feeling? Do you find it difficult to look into her eyes and say a word?

You are probably reading this because someone made you nervous, or shy. It is also possible that you are just a shy person in general. Whatever your reason, I am going to give you a little information about shyness, and social nervousness, and some tips that can help.

Does she/he give you the impression that you might like her/him? You so desperately want to talk, but you feel like nothing can come out of your mouth? When and IF you have ever talked around her/him, did you feel like you made yourself look kind of silly?

Don’t worry if you are an adult feeling like a teenager with a crush. This happens to the best of us. When it does, it makes you wonder why you cannot get a grip.

Why can’t you get a grip and just him/her, or show interest? Maybe you never thought you could be shy. MAYBE you are great with conversation, with the exception of this one woman or man.

Shy, or not shy, I will show you ways to get over this.

get it together

****STAY AWAY until you can get some grip. He/she can feel that you are nervous. To be nervous right in front of your crush would not be good. It can take some of your attractive smoothness (that you have when he/she is not around) away.

short and sweet

*****When you think you have your nerves together, bring a friend. You may still be a little nervous, but being around someone you feel comfortable around, will lessen the tension. Have a small conversation. Talk about something you feel comfortable talking about. Still keep it short and sweet.

bring a friend

*****When you think you have your nerves together, bring a friend. You may still be a little nervous, but being around someone you feel comfortable around, will lessen the tension. Have a small conversation. Talk about something you feel comfortable talking about. Still keep it short and sweet.

After you follow the three steps listed, soon enough, the short conversations will get longer. They will naturally progress, until you are not nervous or shy anymore.  Soon enough, you will look back, and wonder why you were so shy or nervous. You will see that there was no reason to be. Have fun!

shyness facts

An estimated forty percent of the population is shy. Most of the time, if a person is shy, they do not show it, and they hide it. It is actually rare to display obvious nervous traits of being shy. A shy person will sometimes appear snobbish.  Shy people are self-conscious about their every move, and appearance around others.

Studies are showing that shy people are more empathetic towards others. A shy person has friends that value them more

. A shy person will also make less eye contact. Eye contact is something that helps people bond better. A word of advice for the shy person would be, to try to make more eye contact.  Don’t stare a person down, but look at them just a little more often when talking to someone.
