My future

Back to School Night

Wow! Tonight was back to school night for my two kids one in middle school and the other in high school. My high school student is in drama class and the teacher stated if we wanted to volunteer then we would have to come back after attending all 6 classes, for a little meeting that they were having for parents that want to volunteer. So, I thought after the 6th class I'm tired I want to go home but then I said to myself, "I better just go to that meeting since I am always trying to be involved some how in my daughters teenage life, without her thinking I am just being nosey and what not"!

Okay so there is this whole new process that just came about literally a few days ago that we parents have to go through in order just to VOLUNTEER at our child's school. We have to of course give a photo copy of our driver license, fill out a form that looks like this.........

Name of School District

VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE APPLICATION

Name of applicant:

Address:

Date of Birth: Place of Birth:

Height: Weight: Sex: F or M

Hair color: Eye color:

Driver License #: Exp. Date:

Home phone: Work phone:

cell phone:

Do you have a child or children currently enrolled at this school yes or no

emergency contact name: Phone:

CRIMINAL HISTORY: Have you ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor (except for juvenile convictions?) yes no (if yes explain in full detail!)

STATEMENT OF COMITMENT AND RESPONSIBILITIES

AS A VOLUNTEER ON A NAME OF DISTRICT CAMPUS, I AGREE TO:

  • attend orientation or training sessions necessary for my assignment
  • keep school and student information confidential
  • abide by all school rules and board regulations

volunteer signature date

Not only do we have to do this we actually have to go to a place that is contracted with the district, which is located across the street from a Prison in an other city to get our "FINGER'S PRINTED"!

So, now I wonder if I even want to volunteer for my kids school because I might just might have a misdemeanor (for driving with a suspended license and other stuff like that) and I don't know if I will be able to become a volunteer; furthermore I don't want my kids school to know all the bad stuff about me especially if I am not going to pass the application process! That's kind of embarrassing, don't you think? I wonder what's the criteria? I understand completely why they are doing this but couldn't they just ask if you have a criminal history of any crime against a child or violence? What are your thoughts on this, anyone?

Application Process

Do You think this is a good process?
