Hurricane Season 2020

Wettest May in the history of Miami South Florida area. As a youth growing up in South Florida my man to listen to was Bob Weaver and he would tell you that a wet May makes for a bad hurricane season.

Loxahatchee Florida 1982

Late 1970s early 80s fossil fuel became scarce and expensive prediction of future high energy cost was the future. To be ahead of the curve DRD Enterprises Inc of Davie began to build a monolithic concrete bunker home. During the early 80s few products were available to insulate the exterior of structures so this home would use dirt dug from the surrounding pond that would eventually had been an olympic swimming pool with dive zip line off the second story. Second story would have a deck completely surrounding with stair from exterior and entry from second story master bedroom. Two bedrooms bath downstairs and master with shower bath upstairs.

Hurricane Andrew August 24, 1992

As a Miami Dade County firefighter during Hurricane Andrew I saw the need for stronger construction and more safe rooms so designed the safedome. From the construction technique learned in building the home at Loxahatchee Florida enabled me to create the safedome.

8 tons 10 feet in diameter used everyday as storage, extra bedroom, ATV golf cart garage and when needed a room to save your life.

First safedome sold saved the Burtons

During the Florida hurricanes of 2004 the Burtons had their mobile home completely destroyed. After watching the local television station segment on the safedome the Burtons made the wise decision to buy one. Just weeks of delivery the eye of Wilma went down Gun Club Road West Palm Beach Florida and the Burtons mobile home park. For seven hours in 130 mph continuous wind the Burtons bunkered down in their safedome. Rory Burton said that he fell asleep that he would never have known there was a hurricane if not for the sound of metal banging flying in the air.

When Miami Dade County needed protection from tornadoes / hurricanes for their personnel stationed in the Everglades they chose the safedome. By choosing the safeome Miami Dade was able to quickly within a week have a safe room eliminating time consuming engineering plans, contractor bids, permits plus relocatable .

Here comes another hurricane season If your home is not tornado proof it is not hurricane proof! Inventory of safedomes for sale and seeking concrete pros to build and sales locations to make money saving lives. Next evolution in backyard storage sheds those that can save your life!

The following photos are those of a home built early 1983 Loxahatchee, Florida. To understand the strength of this type of construction this is what it took to demolish it. First, large Cat excavator was used, it bounced off.

Next, 5 ton wrecking ball, it bounced off.

Finally men in fire retardant gear carbide tip concrete cut saws was the only method that could destroy this home.

Second Story Deck

Both the single story or two story designs allow for an addition to be built on the concrete arch due to its superior strength. This home would have had a deck surrounding the entire second story.
