Seçkin Esen is working as an English language teacher in Turkey. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in ELT from Hacettepe University in 2010.

For many years in the past, it was believed that humans had a fixed capacity to learn. However, psychologists and educators have recently come to think otherwise. The idea that human intelligence is expandable has been proven by some scientists. We now know that people can actually improve their learning ability. Quick learners have certain proper skills which are basic for anyone to master with practice. Some tips and ways to increase your learning ability are mentioned in this article.

Helpful Tips To be A Fast Learner

Here are some helpful tips for you to be a fast learner
Here are some helpful tips for you to be a fast learner

1. Look at the big picture first.

It is very beneficial to scan first when you are reading a new, unknown material. Then skim headlines, and any available summaries. Previewing the material before reading is very helpful to determine the subject that you are going to read.

2. Practice memory-enhancing techniques.

Memory enhancing techniques make new information more remembered more easily by transforming it into formulations. For instance, you can associate a term you need to remember with a common item that you are very familiar with. These techniques are also called mnemonics. The best mnemonics are those that utilize positive imagery, humor or novelty. Mnemonics are considered effective ways of improving memory.

3. Organize facts into categories.

Organizing information will also increase your capacity since information is stored in memory in related clusters. Try grouping similar concepts and terms together, or make an outline of your notes and textbook readings to help group related concepts. Also, do not try to learn all of the information at once.Try to learn over a period of time rather than one single moment.

4. Learn From Your Mistakes

Making mistakes are normal for all humans, so make it safe to make mistakes and write down your mistakes and what you learned from them. You may use them when you encounter a similar situation. Learning from others' mistakes is another way to improve your learning.

5. Discover your own learning style.

Everybody has his or her own learning style. You should find out what type of learning is the best way to learn new concepts for you. Try some self-analysis. Make a list of all the things you do to learn something. Then use this list to create the learning environment best for you. If you find out your learning style, you can be a quicker learner and more productive.

I always enjoy reading something which can be beneficial to me. After being out of school for a lot of years, I decided to go back to college. School was never difficult for me when I was younger, but now I seem to struggle with trying to manage my time efficiently. You had some good ideas to help me in the process.

Yah.. good article. Mostly learning is usually to do with the health. When a person has bad hygiene, they probably wont be able to perform as high as their potential.

What I think is that you need to have a creative environment for learning, and to really sink yourself int the material. No matter how much you dislike the material, you need to be able to create an imagination of it so that it has a relation to what you like in life. If you like World of Warfcraft, then imagine those people you are studying or whatever it is, characters and objects from that video game.

Also creatures like Wizards, Sorcerers, Magicians, Necromancers can have a great influence on your imagination.

If you want to know what I am talking about, take a look at Hans Zimmer - the famous music composer, and take a look at his lair.

      Google: Hans Zimmer Lair.

You will see that he has an extremely creative and imaginative environment, and he spends around 24h a day there.

Great and simple advice Esen! It really will enhance your learning ability. Maybe you should add #5 - Make a conscience effort to do 1 through 4 until it becomes automatic; in other words practice 1-4 to the point they become instinctive behaviors.

      Thumbs up!
