How to Lucid Dream Effortlessly
What is Lucid Dreaming?
First we should look into what lucid dreaming is exactly. It is defined as any dream during sleep in which you become aware that you're dreaming. So for example, if you are having a dream that you’re a running down the road and then suddenly you realize that you can make a decision to change what happens then you are beginning to lucid dream. When you begin to realize what is happening, your wake conscious kicks in and now you are in control. Many researchers and scientists have found ways to send someone into a lucid dream; however, many people learn to train themselves.
Studies and Research
Certain people can experience this on their own; but, many times people get so excited when they realize what’s going on that they end up waking themselves up. A very small percentage of the population can do this naturally. Today many people try to train themselves to do so as a means of escaping reality. Neuroscientists have been trying to provoke lucid dreams in hopes of a better understanding of the human conscience. "We can really quite easily change conscious awareness in dreams," said Ursula Voss, a clinical psychologist at Frankfurt University in Germany. This can be achieved by delivering mild electrical stimulation to the brain while someone is sleeping. In 2014, her team took 27 healthy young adult volunteers who had never experienced lucid dreams and had them sleep overnight in the lab. Two minutes after beginning the REM cycle, which is when dreaming happens, the participants received a weak electrical current to the frontal lobe for 30 seconds. Voss discovered that 40 Hertz was just enough to kick on their conscious minds. This triggered lucid dreams 77% of the time. In 2009, Voss had determined that the 40 Hertz would be enough to stimulate the brain. In her previous study, she used 6 people who were trained in lucid dreaming. However, since not everyone can be subjected to lab experiments it leaves many people wondering how they can learn to lucid dream on their own.

Preparation for Lucid Dreams
Lucid dreaming opens many doors to different parts of your subconscious. You can create anything and there are no limits. Flying, talking to animals and anything else that is deemed “impossible” in our world can become a reality once you go to bed. The more conscious you become during the dream, the easier it is to change. Daniel Steinbock, the instructor of Lucid Dreaming Kung Fu, teaches how to get a handle on these types of dreams. The first thing you need to do is make sure you are on a regular sleep schedule and that you get enough sleep each night. Your mind needs to be awake while your body is still asleep. When you feel yourself waking up each morning try to keep your eyes closed and don’t move. You need to try to remember as much about your dreams as possible before getting up. Keeping a dream journal is a very effective method to remembering your dreams. Many people who teach themselves how to lucid dream use dream journals so they can track patterns and learn what their minds focus on. Next step is to keep thinking about your dream throughout the day and give yourself little reality checks. These reality checks will form a habit so that when you are dreaming you will instantly know whether it’s a dream or real life.
How to Maintain a Lucid Dream
Once you realize you are dreaming, you don’t want to wake yourself up. You want to do small exercises like moving your arms to keep you focused and in the dream. After you relax, take a few minutes to do nothing. Ignoring everything helps you gain control of the dream and keep it. If you want to do something then say it out loud. This helps you visualize what you want to happen. Make sure you keep a calm and steady mindset. The number one thing that ends lucid dreams is excitement and adrenaline rushes. You also want to remind yourself that you are still dreaming. These two things help keep everything in perspective for you.
When you want to change an aspect of your dream, you need to visualize it. For example, if you want to see someone in particular you should say out loud, “I want to see…”. Then you need to expect that they will come. It is the same feeling as if you text your mom to come over and she replies that she is on her way. You are expecting her to come over. That same expectation needs to cross over into your dream world. This will take a few trial and error sessions to get control of the dreams. If you want to change where you are, you should look for doors or mirrors. Usually, they act like portals in your dream worlds. Being able to change part of your dreams will take time. Emotions and self-reflections are a big part of this states Voss, "Being able to reflect upon yourself, to think about your past and plan your future—this is something that only we humans can do."
