John Titor - A Time Traveler

Updated on December 19, 2011

Who is John Titor?

In early November in 2011 someone going by the name of ‘Timetravel_0’ started popping up on public forums claiming to be a time traveller from the year 2036. Timetravel_0 later revealed that his name was in fact John Titor. One of the first things Titor did was post pictures of his time machine and its operations manual online, he then proceeded to answer questions about, and explain the physics and maths behind, time travel. He also went into detail about his life, and made predictions about what was going to happen in our future. Some of these predictions came true and some didn’t, but he did say that our world line was about 2.5% different to his, therefore his predictions were never guaranteed to be true. Titor claimed that he was sent to 1975 to find and capture an IBM computer system called 5100 and take it back to 2036 with him and he stopped in 2000 for ‘personal reasons’. In March 2001 Titor said he would be leaving our time and returning back to 2036. After this he was never seen or heard of again.

How did the time machine work?

Titor claimed that his time machine was ‘a stationary mass, temporal displacement unit manufactured by General Electric’, and that the ‘unit was powered by two, top-spin, dual-positive singularities that produce a standard, off-set Tipler sinusoid.’
So basically time travel is achieved by altering gravity, the closer a person is to a gravity source the more time appears to have slowed. Travelling at high speed mimics this affect for example, the theory that if one twin travels at a near light speed when he or she returns they would have appeared to have aged less than the one that stayed behind. This type of gravity manipulation however is nowhere near sufficient enough to alter our world line (the world line of an object is the unique path that the object takes as it travels through 4-dimensional space time).
Essentially Titor said that the time machine was based on two rotating micro singularities, or black holes, operating similarly to a single ring singularity (which is a rotating black hole that is distorted into a ring-like region because of centrifugal forces) According to Titor the mass and gravitational pull of this micro singularity, or black hole, was manipulated by injecting electrons onto its surface, which replicates the effects of a Kerr-Newman black hole and enables time travel.

Titor also stated that the ‘Many Worlds Theory' is correct, and it can be used to explain the nature of time travel. The ‘Many Worlds Theory’ is the theory that every event that takes place that can attain more than one possible outcome, will result in every possible outcome, and each of these outcomes is the origin point of a new world line or ‘parallel universe’. Like I mentioned earlier Titor said that our world line is approximately 2.5% different to his and this is because if a time traveller were to enter their own past their presence would cause changes to occur which would, in turn, create an ever-expanding new set of world lines.

Most of what Titor said would happen between 2000 and 2036 were based on the break out of World War 3. He said that in 2015 Russia will launch a nuclear strike against the major cities of the United States, China and Europe and the United States will counter attack. This will be the start of a world war that will kill almost 3 million people. He said that non-lethal weapon systems (that actually turn out to be quite lethal) and biological and chemical weapons will be used. Titor also said that after ‘World War 3’ Russia would become the United States largest trading partner and the Capital of the US would be moved from Washington D.C. to Omaha Nebraska.
Titor also predicted that America will wage war on Iraq, claiming Iraq has nuclear weapons. He made this prediction years before a war with Iraq was even considered and he also claimed no weapons of mass destruction would be found. Titor seemed to be true in this instance but he did also claim that there would be a civil war in the United States in 2005, which obviously never happened.

CERN - Large Hadron Collider.
CERN - Large Hadron Collider.

Another significant prediction that Titor made was that CERN will lay the foundations of time travel in 2000, shortly after Titor left in 2001 CERN announced that the creation on mini black holes was possible.

His story has been circulating the internet for years now and Titor, despite whether he is real or not, has made a big impression on all the people who talked with him or even just read his posts. Many people have been trying to provide evidence to prove him a fake and others put forward arguments for Titors existence. Fairly big evidence towards him just being a hoax is the time travel theory that says that the machine he uses cannot travel further back than the date it was built, which he stated was in 2034.

I found it really interesting reading about John Titor and some of his theories, stories and predictions seemed to be very accurate. Do you think there is there any truth in him or was John Titor just a huge conspiracy?

Thanks for reading. :)

He didn't take my compaq 5100 desktop. He didn't say where he got his from but he probably got one that was in top condition back in 1975.

The way I understood it, the reason they needed that computer is because they still had old outdated military computers they could program with that particular computer which businesses back then used to program or reprogram there own computers rather than hire outsiders to do it for them at a huge expense to their businesses.

Concerning world war three. He just might be right about that. Seeing how the worlds governments are distrustful of each other. Then again maybe that part of history could change as well. Hope it will.Either way. It, seems the United States and Russia may be destined to become trading partners and hopefully both sides will live in peace.

its 2000 not 2011 when he came online. I think he stoped y2k with the IBM that could rewrite the unix

I like to note that John Titor quoted a poem called "A Soldiers winter" which was written 6 years after his appearance so 2006.

Haha yes I suppose it is, fingers crossed.

And yes, it is! You're welcome! :)

Wow, I hadn't heard of John Titor before. I see from Wikipedia that his predictions have been pretty much unproven, but all of these postings and the public's reaction to them are fascinating! Thanks so much for putting this occurrence on my radar!

As you have pointed out, some of his predictions did not happen so that really is anticlimactic for me. The 2015 nuclear warfare is scary knowing that it could happen. Anyway, let's just pray it won't. :)

      Yes do!

Although I don't think I believe in him myself, it's fascinating reading his predictions and things.

      Thank you! :)

It's my first time reading something about Titor and I found his claim very interesting. I shall look into it more. :)

      Thanks! Voted up and interesting!
