Learning Something New Everyday

Updated on May 2, 2012

I am learning as a mom that maybe I didn’t pay as much attention in school as I thought I did… lol

Now I do admit everyone has a subject in school they did not enjoy at all. Mine was math. I absolutely disliked the subject, but loved all the other classes. Now as a Home Schooling parent I am realizing why I should have put a little more effort into learning math.

However math is not the only thing I have discovered that has changed in the learning process. Subjects that I wasn’t introduced to till Jr. High or High School are now taught in Elementary.

I worry everyday if I have my son is on target with his learning ability and being from Florida we are required to take FCAT. When I made the decision three years ago to home school him I had no idea what to do and now I have all kinds of sources that many people would not have thought to try.

Of course we use the local library for reading sources, our local museums for history lessons, we even have went to our new ice cream shop for a science lesson. There are thousands of websites to get printable worksheets. My favorite would be www.superteacherworksheets.com they start from pre-k to 5th grade and range from reading to geography.

So what is it new that I learn every day you are sitting asking? Everything, every time my son picks up a book, a worksheet, when we go on an outing I learn everything he learns because what I learned in school seems to be completely different now from what it was then. Therefore I’m the student also and I absolutely love it.

I think the article is wonderful and eye opening to what we can learn new everyday. I believe when you think you know it all, then you have stopped learning, life is about keeping an open mind to new things and learn all you can. great article keep up the good work.
