Problem of Population Increase

Updated on October 18, 2012

Managing Population

People complain about increase of population in the world. My view is there is no need to worry about increase of population so long as it is managed well. We hear in some countries population is decreasing due to increase in standard of living, late marriage, use of family planning, etc. Decrease in population is more dangerous than increase of population. Population decrease indicates lack of human resources for different activities in a country. We have also seen come country ‘import’ human resources for different activities. This is again not that easy, there is cultural difference, danger of other activities like terror, drug trafficking, spread of disease, etc.

We also know that there is brain drain in certain country due to lack of opportunity in a country. In some place there is lack of human resources while in other place there is lack of opportunity. We also know US and some other countries adopt “green card’ system every year, popularly known as “DV” to attract human resources from other countries.

Sooooo population increase is not a problem in the world so long as necessary skill and knowledge is developed to the available human resources. It is human resources itself which help to develop or provide necessary knowledge and skill to the human resources. The point is that there is necessary of environment to develop such system in a country. It is necessary to develop institutes to provide education to new human resources, students.

In Nepal the irony is that right from labors to intellectuals goes abroad for opportunities. The Arabian countries have a lot of Nepalese labors for their development activities. US (and other countries) universities have many Nepalese intellectuals which provides education to students. The Nepalese universities have fewer intellectuals to provide good education. In other words Nepalese can work better in other countries than in Nepal, it may be in the case of labors or intellectuals!

Nepal has 83000 (around) megawatt of hydro electricity potential. With such high potential, said 2nd in the world, Nepal has load shedding of 16 hours power cut every day. Nepal is contributing a lot in Global Warming. Other countries cut power one hour a year, Nepal cuts 16 hours a day!!!!!!!!

The point is that Nepal cannot manage its available resources in a correct manner. May be it is in the area of human resources (because so many intellectuals and labors are working abroad) or in the area of available natural resources. In those days it is said, Nepal has no money to invest and no development activities, resulting no economic development (or less development) of the country. This ultimately meaning people are poor because they are poor.

Some says there is no (political) environment in Nepal to work. Nepal is always disturbed politically leading no economic activities, no employment opportunities. It is also said that the politics is handled by those who do not study (well). They involved in political activities (only). It means such ‘useless’ students who eventually become political leaders. Such leaders lead the country, resulting mismanagement of the country. I am not convinced with this view. There is a leader who is well qualified from EtonCollege. There is SLC top among politicians. There are a lot of doctorates among political leaders. What is lacking is sincerity, dedication and self-interest free motive among the politicians. Besides corruption, the most of the politicians are interested in self interest and party interest, not the country interest and interest of the general people as a whole.

In conclusion population increase is not a problem. The problem is lack of population management, lack of skilled human resources in managing human resources.

Summary

In summary population management needs to be done properly.
