Personal Musings of a Teacher With a Heart Filled With Hope
The Who
Temi has been a bright kid from the onset, with playful eyes filled with hope in and awe of the world, ever anxious to learn, ever ready to discover.
Upon resumption that semester, It dawned on me that I had a huge role to play in his life as well as the lives of the other five-year olds.
Upon resumption that semester, it dawned on me that I had a huge role to play in his life as well as the lives of the other five-year olds.
The Why
I knew my actions would either make or mar their attitudes towards life, that my decisions and teachings would be a determining factor to their development, that it would either make them become loving, patriotic citizens, loyal to all and sundry or dreadful traitors rebelling against everything dear and true and kind.
Thus, I must tread carefully, being cautious to mould these children in the right way to become global change makers and renowned professionals in their various disciplines.
The What
My desire to see them grow wise and strong made me passionate and changed my mindset to seeing the task at hand like a civic duty rather than a job and I taught them like I have never done before, I completely emptied all to them, and they turned out just fine, our class turnkng out to be recognized by the school in more ways than one.
This desire, I have upheld since then and it has worked miracles even in the most unlikely scenarios!
As teachers, we should know that these kids at such tender age need all the guidance they can get. Some are from broken homes, some maltreated by their parent(s), some bullied by school mates, some reluctant to learn, some always distracted and the list goes on. We must look beyond these and reach out to their tender hearts, for behind all these outward dross, is an enchanting child filled with awe and wonder!
We must love them beyond all imagination and care for them like they were our very own, inpiring hope, instilling love, empathy and confidence and helping them discover their innate potentials and power to make the world a better place.
