Reflections of a High School Reunion

Updated on August 22, 2016

The age old question of should I go or not go to my high school reunion, has been around since the time of the dinosaur. I've been pondering this question ever since I read one of Chuck Lorre's vanity cards at the end of the television show - "Two and a half men". I'm sure that there are plenty of others out there that have been pondering this same question as well. While I was thinking about this topic I decided to Google my high school class, and bingo what should appear? In a far distant dark corner of the internet, a very old long forgotten web site popped up on my computer monitor, which was created by my high school classmates, prior to the reunion.

My high school class had somewhere around 600 people in it, so there was no way to have known everyone. however this old site had hundreds of uncensored entries, and when I say uncensored, I mean totally uncensored. I remembered most of these folks, who posted comments on this site. I eventually opted not to attend the high school reunion, but this old site gave me a bird's eye view, and a reflection of my old high school classmates.

I've selected a few of their comments to be included in this hub. I didn't make any of this up, and these are their own words. However I did have to clean up some of the language. There were some comments which I couldn't even consider using, that were unpublishable even on the hub pages. It takes all kinds of folks to make up a high school class, and you are about to see what I mean. I'd now like to introduce you all to some of my high school classmates, as they ponder the question themselves, of going to the high school reunion.

There are those who have a really big heart

Hello everyone! It is so nice to see everyone on this wonderful website.! Boy it has been a rough 9 months! I just got out of rehab and now things are getting back to normal. The booze, the drugs and the meaningless one night stands really took their toll. But I am cleaned up and ready to go to the reunion! I have been married three times and have 3 wonder children. I am really looking forward to our reunion. I cannot wait to see Mark. I always had a crush on him. What a cute little stud muffin. I bet he still looks good! It was really a shame about Lee being eaten alive by that crocodile in Australia. I always thought he was such a nice boy. Mark, watch out! Cause I want a kiss! I have also learned that Lee was not eaten alive by an alligator. I was so sorry to have spread that rumor. But of course, I was hooked on Vicodin back then so I have no idea what I was saying. I apologize to everyone. See you all in November! Bye! Hugs, Angela

There are those who went into bussiness for themselves.

Hey Guys, Life is really great. I'm a professional male escort. Making the big bucks now baby!!!. Very glad I never wasted my time with continuing education. Catch you on the west coast some time. peace!!!

There are those who found martial bliss.

Hello everyone, Its really nice to hear from you all. I have been happily married for 13 years and I have a precious daughter Olivia. She is a present from heaven. After I graduated I moved out of the area. I met my husband Greg and we moved back home. He liked the area. My husband is the manager at the Royal Flush septic tank company who's motto is "A straight flush beats a full house every time". We still live in the area, but we are looking to move soon. I hope that everyone is doing well, and I hope to hear from you soon.

There are those who were married, and now aren't.

Hi guys, I was married for 12 1/2 years but now divorced. I have a 9 year old girl , and an 8 year old boy and we live back home. Hope to see everyone at the reunion.

There were those who can't decide between the single life and marriage.

Hi everyone - I was married, then divorced, and now I've been married for 12 years. I've been working for the same company for 19 years, doing transmission rebuilding.

There are those who want to be left alone, and are destined to live the single life.

Hi, Divorced, no kids, not looking for either one. Thanks for directing me to this website.

There are those who traveled great distances.

Hey Everybody, I'm still having fun. I've been hanging out in the Bahamas (Hopetown). I've finally found paradise. PAT

There are those who moved far away, and are back .

Hello everyone, back in our old neighborhood after living in San Diego for a time. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Single, never married and have no plans to do such. President of Internet start-up company. Look me up!

There are those who are behind bars.

Hello all! This is great. As I stated, my release date is September. Haven't seen much since graduation. Can't wait to see the sky. I been working out a lot and studying for MD Bar. I heard the reunion will be on bus line, so I will be there. I hear a lot from Kevin. He is doing well with rehab. He will not be released, but he can get a day pass. I was hoping we could work a fund raiser of some kind to help me out with getting back into the real world. Any leads on a good job and place to bunk out is greatly appreciated. If you need to contact me I'm usually in the chat rooms when school lets out. Can't wait to rekindel old memories, as much of the past is mostly a blur. Good luck all and stay clean.

There are those who are totally full of it.

Hey gang. It is great to see how well everybody is doing. Thanks for the well wishes I've received. OK. My story(short version) Put myself through school and graduated with a degree in finance. Moved to the island of Maui in Hawaii. Opened a nightclub business as managing partner. The Blue Tropix was Maui's premiere nightspot. Spent most time surfing, scuba diving, swimming, biking and meeting people from all over. Met a beautiful actress named Marla while she was on vacation. We were married at sunset on the beach. After much consideration, we decided to live in L.A. The nightclub accepted a buyout from the World Cafe. Moved to LA. I worked designing accounting systems for a successful entrepreneur. My son was born. He is my pride and joy. Currently, we live in Marina del Rey (very close to the beach)in West LA. I am two years in as the controller for an investment bank based in Century City. Everyone in the family is great.

There are those who would rather be anywhere but at the reunion.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, none of that Happy Holiday crap here. I hope everyone is healthy and doing well. I've been married for eight years now. We started having sex last week. I have a fourteen year old stepson who looks just like me. I work as a Field Supervisor for Verizon, formerly Bell Atlantic, formerly C&P Telephone, formerly AT&T or ma bell. I'm still playing music, but not at any reunion. In fact I have a date to play this weekend, See ya there.

There are those who never made it to the reunion

I missed all the reunions. I wasn't well known during high school. After graduating I joined the air force . Since then look forward to any contact with those who may have known me. Best wishes to my class.

There were those who never knew about the reunion.

Hi everyone, I guess I should have left a message the first time I signed in! This site is great. I just learned about it. Hi Jay and thanks for tuning me in! I am married to my husband Joe for 10 years now. We have 3 boys. I worked for an Oral Surgeon for 12 years and now have dedicated MY LIFE to my kids and my husband. Soccer mom and all! Just love it. For some reason I never got a notice about the reunion. Is this a hint?? I even bought my parent's house. This site is great and I have really enjoyed reading it. Take care everyone and I planned on coming to the reunion if I only knew where it was.

There are those who never made it out of their house.

It's been real dudes! Been smoking some bud, flipping some eggs and smoking more bud. I don't even remember high school!! The last thing I remember was getting stoned! Whacked, but still alive!

There were those who were looking forward to the reunion.

I am looking forward to the reunion and just wanted to let you know that my e-mail address has changed to. Hope to see everbody real soon.

There were those who it took some time to recuperate from the reunion.

I just recovered from the reunion. It was a lot of fun seeing everyone. Hats off to everyone who put this together. The band was great!

These were the people who I grew up with, and went through all of school with. I think I may have made the right decision by skipping the reunion, and I don't feel like I missed a single solitary thing now!

Did you go to your high school reunion?

I noticed on a similar website that if marriage was mentioned but the spouse was not named, further down was a mention of divorce. I thought that was very sad.

I went to my first high school reunion in 2010 and plan to attend the one this year. I had a ball and reconnected with some people I grew up with but never really hung out with back then. Some of us have maintained communication, traveled together and been supportive ever since. I am looking forward to this years reunion by a different group and class range than before. I always imagined attending a reunion and now I get two and have enjoyed being reconnected to so many people I've known since elementary school thanks to facebook. It only took 20+ years. :-)

Hi, interesting hub. We didn't have a reunion custom where I grew up, so never went to one. It would be interesting to have one now, though, after almost half a century, if we could hunt up everybody.

We're scattered to the four winds. I just found my childhood best friend after 30 years, and she's coming to my son's wedding in 2 months. Facebook is a great wallbreaker.

This is a great hub! I found out something very interesting when I attended my reunion. Everyone was screwed up, not just me! LOL

We all had our struggles but I had assumed that every one's insides must match their outsides. That's not always the case. I'm glad I went to the reunion. After some years have gone by, we all seemed to have mellowed and we truly enjoyed spending time together.

Thanks for a great hub! Voted up!

Hilarious, thanks for writing. I haven't been to a reunion yet. It is funny the stuff we write in our high school annuals, and then . . . Ha In His Love, Faith Reaper

I'm with you on that one, Credence! Think every comment on here has some validity to it. The only reunion I ever attended was my 1st husband's because I was enough younger to help him forget Credence' comments. Then he found the "friends" he had gotten so well along with were hitting on me. Worst reunion for both of us. But thinking like you, --maybe==

My 40th is coming up this summer. Most people only go to those things if they have something they want to crow about. Nobody is anxious not be remembered as they once were, not have sagging busoms, balding pates, wrinkled skin, bad breath, all the rest, where the youthful standard once was.......

Because of the distance and expense I have to give thought to the idea, it may be possible that no one shows up.

This reminds me of my high school reunion and our quirky website. I find most of my classmates so totally in another world. After meeting these 'strangers', I found it disturbing that I don't share much with them. I lost contact with them in no time. But, I never lost touch with my best friends ever. Thanks for sharing. Voted up.

Never went to my reunions--like some others, didn't know about them. However, I almost did go to my 20th (dating myself!) because my husband wanted to show me off: I was eight (8!) mos. pregnant, had a gorgeous red dress, still dark hair and he said I'd probably be the prettiest pregnant reuniting person there! Great Hub! Hmmm. Maybe I'll hunt up the next one (if there is one!)

Enjoyed your hub. Made me chuckle! Never attended my high school reunion and probably won't ever. I would probably find the same people you have noted, just different faces.
