The 1980's
The 80's
I was 11 years old in 1980, I grew up in the 80's , "For Sure" I loved MTV it was really "Way Cool" and "Totally Awesome". Jimmy Carter was in office , prime interest rates soared up to 25 percent, brand new refrigerators sold for 100 dollars, (they were silver). Construction went down. People lost their businesses, fortunately My mom and dad both continued to work. The radio was playing mostly, Maddona, and that Eye in the sky song, by the Alan parsons project band. People voted for "Ronny" Regan a Hollywood Star into office, that was a big first in 1981, it was" the cold war" The movie "Red Dawn" came out on 1985 (i still love movie) Ronald Regan talked to Gorbachev the leader of Russia and they showed them both on T.V.it was neat to see them shake hands and Ronald Regan put his hand on his shoulder. Ronald Regans persistance and butting heads attitude helped cool off the cold war. Ronald Regan got shot and Americans voted him in again so for the 80s he was our President until 1989. Businesses started booming and production was back up again after the "Reganomics" and the trickle down effect started happening. We watched the Berlin wall go down it was a big deal. A Sad event was when the space shuttle exploded in front of our eyes on T.V . I felt sad for the astronauts and their families especially the school teacher that went up and the kids who were her students watching that day.
We had to eat all the food on our plate because there were starving people in Ethiopia, there were REALLY starving people in Ethiopia! Many bands got together and did a "major" fundraiser called the Live Aid Concert. There was a rash of Ethiopian jokes rolling through the grapevine some of them were pretty grotesque. In 1985 and the farm Aid concert helped farmers too. there wave a wave of "BIG HAIR BANDS" Life was "Like, good", way good, "Rad", Totally,"For Sure", but just look out for the "Valley Girls".
