How To Keep Warm During The Winter and The Big Freeze

Updated on January 12, 2011

With another big freeze here in the United Kingdom and around the world, who else is feeling chilly in the evenings while you are watching your favourite soaps on the television. We all crank up the heating so that suddenly we realise that we have to start stripping off because we get too hot. Start saving your money and look at my tips on ways to stay warm and cosy during the winter months without having to endure the shock of receiving your monthly gas and electricity bill.

Extra Layers
Sounds obvious but it works. Instead of going for your big think jumper, put a long sleeved, thin top underneath and a vest if you own one, put your leggings on under your jeans, long johns for the male readers and extra pairs of socks, you can buy some great big thick woolly socks now which I am a massive fan of. So more layers the better if its really cold.

House Work
“No”, I can hear you all shouting at the computer screen, but seriously, when I'm freezing, I get the hoover out and hoover every room in the house, get my rubber gloves on and start washing up, scrubbing and cleaning the house and putting the washing on, running up and down the stairs with piles of washing in your arms not only makes you work up a sweat but keeps you nice and toastie, even on a bitter cold day. Just think how clean your house will be too, like a show home.

Dancing
This is by far the most fun way to keep warm. Stick on the radio, your favourite CD or the music channel and start bopping to the music, look at it as you are practicing for your next night out on the town or new years eve. I do find this on better if you have children as if you get caught out looking a bit of a wally at least you have an excuse which you can get away with it “the children really wanted to dance”.

Microwavable Boots
Wow, is all I can say, very simple concept, stick em in the microwave and you will have lovely toastie toes! This is a great idea because I always find that if my feet or head are cold then my whole body seems to be cold so warm those little pinkies up with microwavable boots/slippers.

Blankets
With so much choice on the market at the moment, you have snuggle blankets, snug rugs and just ordinary blankets, all fleecy and soft. This is a lovely way to relax in the evenings with a good movie, some naughty sweet treats and maybe a glass or 2 of your favourite tipple, wrapped up in the fleecy blanket and you don’t even have to worry about getting uncomfortable when reaching for your glass because some of them have even got sleeves now, cool!

So stick with my few handy tips on keeping warm in the big freeze and there will be lots of people warm and cosy in their homes. I hope you enjoyed this fun and informative hub and feel free to leave any comments or questions or even your own tips on keeping warm without the big bills.
