Trees are the Lungs of the World

Updated on November 21, 2015

I Love Trees!!

All trees have a grace, beauty and dignity which is individual to each and every one. Even when they have reached the end of their days and it would take the smallest breeze to send them crashing to the ground you can still see their character.

From the massive Sequoia to a tiny sapling they are all of benefit to the planet, and mammals, insects, birds, fishes and of course we humans. We should also remember the other plants that either use trees to feed themseves or simply use as a climbing frame to reach the sun, or hide from its rays under a vast canopy of leaves. But whatever . or whoever the one thing for sure is that trees help us breath a little more easily.

From the vast rain and tropical forests to a single tree standing alone in a wilderness they benefits they give are extensive.

Trees, Glorious Trees

All shapes and sizes, but all beautiful

Why we need trees.

Firstly and probably most importantly trees breath carbon dioxide----that noxious gas that is doing so much damage to our ozone-layer, and possibly helping to speed up global-warming, and it is certainly a terrible pollutant in some areas of the industrialised world.

Secondly, but just as importantly , trees give shelter, life, and homes to so many other species:-

insects, birds, all manner of mammals, reptiles, snakes and spiders and of course , We humans!!

For instance in the mangrove swamps fish hide amongst their roots, maybe even spawning there and the oldest predator on the planet lays in wait for its next meal or simply snoozes.

Trees are of course a big part of the food chain whether they are still standing tall and proud or have fallen to the ground because of age or some natural disaster, or because they have been cut down and left to rot.

Their bark, wood, leaves, fruit and blossoms are used by just about every other living species on the planet. Either for food, to build homes, or in the case of we humans to furnish those homes or simply to burn to give warmth and to cook food on.

Used for everything

Wood from trees has been used for just about every purpose imaginable ever since man discovered what a versatile material it is. I do believe it has even been used to make falseteeth!!

BUT, the sad truth is that the "Lungs of the Planet" are shrinking rapidly and the sadder truth is that it is us, MAN, supposedly the most intelligent and technically superior species on Earth who is responsible for this terrible destruction.

And, the worst part of it all is that it is primarily down to mans greed and over population.
