Three Things to Consider Before Taking a Study Abroad United States Program

Updated on January 2, 2013

So you have finally decided to take a study abroad United States program. Hooray! and congratulations for having made a good choice. Thing is, now that you have decided where to take a bachelors degree (or post graduate program); where exactly in the United States is best to take your program? Among the many universities offering the program, where is it best for you?

The decision is entirely yours, just consider three things.

One, your major or field of concentration should be the focal point. Research on what university has a good program on your intended concentration. Take Harvard if you like Law or you’d pursue medicine. California Tech, is best for IT related courses. Do some research and make the most of your study abroad United States experience.

Second, your budget should be given a look as well. Be familiar with the tuition rates, scholarly needs, board and lodging expenses, and the likes as per university you are considering. It is best to have a clear financial view of one’s education.

Lastly, yourself, do you really see yourself being an Ivy Leaguer? Or would you rather prefer Caltech, University of Chicago or MIT? These are also world renowned and highly acclaimed. Being part of a university or college is a lifelong attachment. Which among these universities are you quite attracted? Having a personal affiliation to an institution increases the likelihood of enjoying your stay (and persevering in trying times), so better give this a thought.
