Top Online Degrees

Updated on June 3, 2012

Online classes are becoming more popular than ever before. As a matter of fact I take some online classes at the college that I am enrolled in now. They are convenient and just as good as traditional college classes. Before enrolling in school, I researched the top online degrees that can be earned through online education. These are the results of my research.

Careers that Require a Degree in Business

  1. Entrepreneurship (a business degree is helpful but not necessary)
  2. Economics
  3. Communications
  4. Accounting
  5. Marketing

This is the #1 online degree earned through college online courses. Average salaries for jobs that require a bachelor's degree in business range anywhere from roughly $40,000-$80,000 at the least. Degrees in business also guides a person to learn more about diversity and ethics which plays a major roll in the workforce.

Although a business degree is the number one major degree that most college students go after, it is also the most competitive when it comes to the workforce. For example, the more people that attain a business degree, the more people it will be to compete against for the job. This should by no means discourage you from your goals. If anything good competition is worth having because it keeps you on your toes.

Education Careers that Require a Degree in Education

  1. Daycare Administrator
  2. Elementary School Administrator
  3. Secondary School Administrator
  4. Teacher (most states require a teacher to have at least a B.A. in Education and even though some of the learning can't be learned online, you can take some of your required classes online)
  5. College or University Professor

With education falling right behind nursing with a shortage of workers, it is the second most sought after degree online. Even with the average teacher's salary ranging any where from $30,000 to $40,000 in some states, education majors still realize the need for a good educator or education administrator. You may not become the wealthiest person on the planet but it is important for our children to have educators that care and are willing to help us guide our children into their future.

Most online classes for education are for education administration. If you want to become a teacher you will more than likely have to attend traditional classes and do an internship at a school. But who knows, with so many colleges and universities offering online course education, our future may consist of more online classes which would require more online teachers.

Online Courses that Guide You to a Career in Healthcare

  1. Medical Coding and Billing Specialist
  2. Data Entry
  3. Case Management
  4. Clinical Assistant

Just to name a few.........

Top 3 Places that Offer Jobs that Require a Degree in Healthcare Administration

  1. Hospitals
  2. Nursing Homes / Assisted Living
  3. Clinics

We all know that being a nurse is a hands on job and that isn't something that you can physically do online. Taking care of sick patients is no easy job and it is something that you have to physically be there to learn and do. But, what about the people that are in charge of the floor nurses and in charge of directing quality patient care? That is where healthcare administration comes in. Healthcare administrators do exactly that, administrate. They make sure patients are getting the most quality care possible and help to take care of financial situations. Degrees in healthcare administration are the 3rd most sought after degrees online.

Careers in Computer Information Technology (CIT)

  1. Database Administrator
  2. Computer Support Specialists
  3. Computer Systems Analyst

Computer Information Technology

I was surprised to see that this was not the #1 degree sought after degree online. We live in the day and age of technology. Almost everything we do revolves around technology. If it wasn't for technology, we would not even have online college courses. Although almost everything we do does revolve around technology, everyone is not interested in developing new technology. They only want to use new technology. But, I have a slight feeling all of this may be changing since the success story of Mark Zuckerberg.

Careers that Require a Degree in Communications

  1. Advertising Specialist
  2. Marketing Specialist
  3. Creative Director
  4. Reporter
  5. Arts Administration
  6. System Analyst
  7. Health Counselor
  8. Translator
  9. Social Worker
  10. Media Planner

*This is just a few of the many.

And finally, a communication degree is one of the top 5 degrees sought after online. There can always be improvement in communicating with others. Communication is key in any relationship whether the relationship is business or personal. Whether a person is communicating by telephone, computer, iphone, web-cam, or one-on-one, communication is very important. The way we communicate is also important. This is the reason why there are so many different career opportunities associated with communication. Widgets

Whether you decide to go after an online degree or take traditional classes to earn your degree, just remember educating yourself is important no matter how you do it.
