AMIE: Courses & Career
AMIE or Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers is an excellent option for higher study especially for those students who are unable to pursue a regular engineering degree after finishing diploma and degree. AMIE is recognized by the Government of India as equivalent to engineering degree by AICTE, UPSC, SSC etc.
AMIE, an Overview
The Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (AMIE) Program is conducted by IEI (Institution of Engineers, India) the largest multi-disciplinary engineering professional society in India. So, IEI membership is the first step to become an AMIE and it is of two classes namely, Technician Member of IEI for those candidates who passed 10+2 and Senior Technician Member of IEI for those who have passed accredited Diploma in Engineering/Technology or Polytechnic.
AMIE courses are divided into Section A and Section B. Both Technician and Senior Technician Members can appear for the Section A i.e. the preliminary examination of AMIE. After the successful completion of Section A, members can choose a particular discipline of engineering program in Section B. (Each year Section- A examination is held in May and November).
Scope of AMIE
Many of the students are confused about the scope of AMIE. As it is equal to other engineering degrees conducted by various universities and institutions in India and abroad, students after passing AMIE become eligible to apply for GATE, GRE, IAS, and IES Examinations or they can start a career in the realm of engineering. There are a number of AMIE Engineering Colleges that offers excellent coaching for AMIE across India.
