How one can do thing which are important and reach greater heights of productivity by leaving one’s comfort zone.
In the words of Mahatama Gandhi:-“If I have the belief that I can do it, I will surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have it at the beginning
According to A.K Alasdair White:-“ The comfort zone is a behavioral state within which a person operates in an anxiety-neutral condition, using a limited set of behaviors to deliver a steady level of performance, usually without a sense of risk. A person’s personality can be described by his or her comfort zones. A comfort zone is a type of mental conditioning that causes a person to create and operate mental boundaries .Such boundaries creates an unfounded sense of security. Like inertia, a person who has established a comfort zone in a particular axis of his or her life, will tend to stay within that zone without stepping outside of it. To step outside their comfort zone, a person must experiment with new and different behaviors, and then experience the new and different responses that occur within their environment.
Remember that big resolution you had with yourself, every now and then or on the eve of the New Year in which you vowed to lose weight or find a new career or start exercising? Do things always seem to get in the way of accomplishing even the simplest of goals like calling potential clients or starting a new venture? If you find yourself in the intellectual zone and not the productive zone. I have some ideas for you to think about if you’re willing to break out of your personal “comfort zone”. Have you ever thoughts what is it that separates productive people from those who for whatever reason are unable to be all that they would like to be? It is an irony to be sure, that situations with which we are habitual, our comfort zones can actually bring about a great deal of discomfort when they keep us from accomplishing things that are important to us. Productivity is fueled by self talk. Self talk is nothing more than thoughts, through which we can motivate us to get up and move on, but at the same time thoughts have the power to motivate or cripple us.
In the words of Booker T Washington:-“ Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overc
What we believe to be true about our environment and ourselves is derived from our central and often foundational part of our beliefs, which is the most accurate predictor of all our happiness, contentment and success. Comfort zones usually feel familiar and predictable and that is what makes them comfort able, not the experiences or outcomes associated with them. That is why it is possible to get stuck in a comfort zone even when it is extremely uncomfortable or painful being there and we always fee a sort of uneasiness restlessness in ourselves. The day to day activities may have made us habitual of them and we may have confined us in a set routine of life. Then it becomes almost impossible and difficult to shatter those invisible boundaries, to get ourselves free.
It has been said in many different ways that the brain can only truly focus on one thing at a time. If for example your focus is on to start writing a novel, a good piece of music or start to create something new and extraordinary, or in simple words want to reduce your weight, but your core belief is that you do not have the required knowledge or talent, or that you are so unattractive that now there is no use of getting weight loss, your brain will jump into overdrive neutralizing all the competing messages and negative self talk, negative thoughts which will make you to become distracted from your initial focus ultimately deprive you of the energy and effort you require to accomplish your goal. Allowing negative thoughts and emotions to enter into your subconscious is a dangerous trend which will stop you from being productive. As it has been established that our subconscious mind is like a leveled fertile ground, whatever seed we sow there, it will give us back the same in the form of full grown tree. Whatever thoughts, beliefs, opinions, messages, theories or feelings you engrave or impress on your subconscious mind, you’ll experience the same on the outside. The famous American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, once said,” Man is what he thinks all day long.”
What lies out side comfort zone
How to break through situation like this
If you wonder how to breakthrough situations like this, it is often helpful to just take a moment and talk to yourself (Known as autosuggestion) and then listen to yourself. Listen whether your negative core belief is true or false and that has no basis or value in reality. Asking yourself whether some particular happening or a person has contributed in some way in planting old thought patterns of discouragement in you? If that is so, it will then necessary to put it in a proper perspective ,in a new perspective and then start feeding replacement messages to yourself, describing more accurately in fact who you are? Feed yourself with new message over and over and over who you are and what you want to achieve. Sometimes the old pattern of negative thoughts will emerge and make you indecisive, but think and force yourself to be more decisive is a great part of being productive. Make it a habit of talking to yourself, feeding positive messages over and over and then a time will come when you’ll feel that it is time to stop collecting information and get into action mode. I can tell with surety, as I have experienced the same stagnation and lethargy in myself. And then suddenly started talking to myself, in the way I have described above, and believe me, now I have shattered my old comfort zone by becoming more productive and contributing. Though the simple truth is that we are all humans, and no matter what we do, someone is not going to like it. But making correct decisions, which are right for you, is essential to living an important ingredient of a meaningful, constructive, productive life. If you really want to change yourself and your life, you have to get rid of your old baggage.
Take action
Because you have not taken proper action. If it is a new career you are interested in, take action! Get your resume updated, check out the newspapers, magazines, and now internet is a great source of knowledge and information, start networking with friends and colleagues .By listening to the signals your intuition sends you and taking ACTIONS on its behalf you’ll feel stronger and more confident. I’m an artist and photographer. That is what I have felt few years back, when my art and photography works got accolades and won laurels Nationally and Internationally and my written work published the very first time.
And I assure you, very firmly, by talking and listening to yourself will make you true to yourself..It is not listening to your truth that is depressing and destructive .Also take stock of the community of people you choose to be around and want to be part of them. I advise you not to be a part of the gathering of people who hate their job, who work only for the paycheck, sit around and criticize the system, the government and those who have achieved something which they have not. The people who just sit and wait something to happen which will make their life suddenly better. Get out of their company. Do not allow yourself to be contaminated by that kind of energy. Have a group of peer who are all very interested in continuous improvement like for instance the community of Huber’s at Hub pages.
Spending time with likeminded people will reinforce your values, and they affect your productivity. Finally you may need to eliminate something in your current schedule to free up the time and effort you’ll need to do this work and accomplish your goals. Be honest to yourself, make a list of the things you can do by yourself, by acknowledging your limitation, you can recognize the boundaries in between. And when you feel that you’re are in a mental state of operation in which when performing an activity you are fully immersed in a mental condition of energized focus, full involvement and enjoyment, motivation and learning then perhaps ultimate experience of joy or even rupture is an indication that you have stepped out of your comfort zone.
As Josh Billing said:-“There is nothing so easy to learn as experience and nothing so hard to apply.”
