biology can be defined as the study of living and non living things.
Biology is a field of science. Simply put, it is the study of living things, but it is full of various branches that delve deeper into specific areas. Genetics, Ecology, Physiology, Oceanography, Study of Fungi etc are all subsections of Biology.
Incidentally, Chemistry too is broken into various types... there is Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, etc
