I would like to know what you think of home-schooling - either pro or con.
As a homeschooling parent (7 years now), of course I am a proponent of that educational choice. I think that homeschooling is an individual decision that each family has to make. I am not dogmatic to say that it is the only or best choice for every family. There are too many variables to make an across the board statement like that.
We started homeschooling because we were living abroad. International schools were exorbitantly expensive and surely not as high quality as what I could provide. Young children only need plenty of living books and hands-on explorations. I could provide that at a fraction of the cost of international schools. Local schools were not an option because of the language barrier, political dogma taught in them, and the competitive emphasis on testing and grades.
We bought a complete curriculum from Sonlight, and loved it. Over the years we have used many living books, literature-rich curricula -- Sonlight, Winter Promise, Beautiful Feet.
Homeschooling has afforded me the chance to re-learn things I had forgotten or never studied.
Homeschooling has given our family far more quality time together, reading books, playing games, visiting museums, etc.
Homeschooling has given us the freedom to travel and experience some "ultimate field trips" such as the Terracotta Warriors in China and Yellowstone National Park in USA.
I was homeschooled through my entire childhood, and have written an entire hub on the pros and cons, as I see them. Not trying to be overly self-promotional, but I can't imagine a hub more relevant to your question, and I'd rather just give you the link than repeat everything I said in it:

I was involved in a forum discussing whether teachers should be held accountable for a students success. I started thinking about the possibilities of home schooling, but I don't have any information on the subject and I noticed there were no hubs on the topic. What do you know about it and what is...
