Do you know how lasting is the poisonous effect of the hair of the Pine Processionary caterpillar
I have a house in Gers France in which I made a vegetable garden down wind of a fine stand of pines that I now see have the caterpillars nests at the top of the 12 metre high trees. No doubt the hairs lodge in the trees and fall to the ground after they process to the ground in March, should I be concerned that they will be dangerous for, say, a month?
I can find nothing on the net about how long the hair remains toxic after it has been shed, though from the forum threads I have been reading some people have still been affected by the hairs as much as two months after the hairs had been shed. I am sorry I cannot be of more help.

You could try asking them on this forum as all of the contributers seem to have some first hand experience of these pesky little critters.
