Does anyone know a lot about copyright laws?

I am writing a hub, and tried to use a public record in it that is published elsewhere. From my best understanding public records can not be copyrighted, and I can use the same record as long as I write original content to go with it. Am I missing something here?

Yes, you first must put the copyright disclaimer along with your article, as well as put the source from where the original public record was obtained.  Putting the disclaimer will make it less likely that someone will flag your content, just do a search for the copyright "fair use" act - disclaimer and you can learn more about how you can legally use other's materials as long as you are not making money from the use and you are using it for educational purposes.
