How to calculate percentage?

How do you calculate percentage and what is it useful for?somebody just got interested in maths

(i noticed all the calculation questions) it's funny because i'm quite weak at maths but percentage i know well, it's just so useful to compare things or even to calculate probabilities.

basically to know a percentage of something you take the part (for which you wish to find the percentage), you divide it with the total and then multiply by 100

for example, John is taking part of the hubpages challenge. by the end of the first week he has written 23 hubs. is he doing well? 23/100*100=23%

let's compare it with his progress in terms of time 7/31*100=22,5%

great job, john! keep up the good work and you can make it

because percentage is a way to put all numbers relate to each other in terms of 1 to 100 it's great to be able to see the big picture. otherwise you could just have this hunch, but percentage lets you be sure
