Why are more people  posting selfies at sights of human loss and tragedy?

A recent E Manhattan building explosion and fire that killed two, had smiling people posing for selfies and posting them online.Disaster areas are being flooded with people obsessed with posting themselves in front. Have we as a civilization lost our humanity?

What we are witnessing are the fruits of an amoral capitalist society. Relative to the beginning of time,it was only a few seconds ago that Americans were pushing to the head of the line to be the first to bid on slaves fresh of the boat from Africa. Not much has changed since then except the fact that we have technology and the internet. If Americans would have had the internet in 1830 they would have been posting selfies with the 14 year old slave girl they had just purchased at a discount. Welcome to the U.S.A..

Humans like to think they have evolved and not show their primitive side but maybe this selfie thing is an example of our dark side we don't like to acknowledge.

At a restaurant near Syracuse N.Y. years ago, a man fell dead on the floor one weekend right by the salad bar. People were stepping over his corpse to get their salad! If it happened today, you can bet someone would take a selfie with the dead guy.
