Teach literacy and give people a variety of materials to read.
Do not let any religious or political group get the right to ban opinions and discussions in the name of protecting the peace or image of some faction or because they labeled the dissenting views as based only on stupidity, irrationality, hate. Because the best way to fight bad ideas is with good ideas, and pointing out the flaws and gaps in OK ideas helps them improve.
To say "don't question this or you're evil" is a hallmark of close-mindedness, groups that say "criticize us or our ideas and we can kill you" destroys progress and improvement in all areas, and when you deny people the ability to express their views (no matter how good sounding the reason is), you guarantee violence because when people cannot argue, they can only fight.
