How the Eagle came to the First People
Native American Culture is also a Tradition of Story Telling at the Fire Ring
Native American, stories were always told in go-la (wintertime). That's when the harvesting is done, and it's not yet time to begin planting. Everything is very very quiet, it's usually snowing outside, and except for the hunters, everyone has to stay inside next to the fire ( a-tsi-la ), where it is warm and comfortable. Wintertime is also the best time to tell stories because that's when the snakes are asleep, and they can't hear what we are saying. My Grandfather told me this story about when Creator gave the gift of the Eagle.

How does an individual express thanks to all the visitors that read a hub creation?
This is a very neat place for individuals to express them selves and share knowledge, information and create a hub sharing in a very unique way, and the opportunity of a social network that has a greater purpose than at a first-blush-peek?
Hubs remains an adventure for every single user to discover just how fun and even more every day as they learn the ins and outs of creating a lens sharing that peaks the mind of the reader visiting the lens, and adds something greater to their life experiences?
And a place of surprise! As we were honored and surprised by the award of a Purple Star when at Squidoo.
We thank each and every visitor for your time is a precious entity that has a limited period upon Mother Earth, and in this regard you have honored us with your visit to one of our lens creations. Sometimes, we as humans get so rushed by life we simply forget to stop a moment and say: "Thank you!".
The Native American Nation is made of many individual tribes and the word of "Thank you" actually does not exist in any of our many languages: But, was a Simple Nod of the Head from one Warrior to another Warrior. This nodding had exactly the same meaning as the written words of Thank you.
We nod our heads to each visitor!
How the Eagle came to the First People
By storyteller Wha-O-Chee
In the beginning the Earth was created, and a great thundercloud appeared on the horizon. With much lightening and thundering it descended toward the Great Cedar which was a the First Gift to the People.
As the heavy rain cleared, there was a new creature formed by the hand of the Creator and Father spoke its name: Eagle! I saw the eagle perched on the highest limb of the Great Cedar.
When we watched, he suddenly raised mighty wings and flew slowly down to the ground near my foot and then sat down. My name is "Mugwa" of the First People and I watched as Eagle approached the Earth, and saw Eagle put forward his foot, and as he stepped upon the ground, he became a man next to me.
He spoke: " I am Eagle and I shall always be upon the Winds as your sacred guide. Here is one of my wing feather to wear in honor of me and to give all others the vision you have received from the Creator.
I "Mugwa" now state the answer of the vision to the People. We are called to recognize the eagle as a messenger of the creator, and rely upon the Eagle to carry word of our Walk to the Creator.
When an eagle comes to where we are working, we know that someone cares about us, and when the eagle soars over our home it is a Blessing of Strength from the Creator and an acceptance of our Walk upon Mother Earth and is a Great Sign that Creator is watching over us and we are remembered.
Wing Feathers are highly prized by Native Americans and used for Religious Ceremonies. While the tail feathers are used more for Ceremonial Dance within the Great Circle. But every part of the vision Eagle is Sacred right to the Eagles' Claws. Possession of a Raptors part or feathers is a Federal Crime, and even Registered Natives must carry a Special Permit of ownership when they acquire them ONLY from the US Government.
Eagles Feathers are A Gift From Creator
Native American use the tail feathers of the Eagle to create Dance fans, and in their Regalia Clothing.
They are used for the Tribes Ceremonial Staff and in Headdress to honor the Creators Gift.
If a feather drops from anyone's regalia during the Pow Wow in the Dance Ring EVERYTHING STOPS as someone calls out "Downed Feather".
No one moves except those Honored Warriors whom are usually War Veterans who go together and pick up the downed feather. Once picked up it is given back to the owner if known outside the Circle area, and then the Dance Continues.
If the feather has been damaged it may not re-enter the Dance Circle until properly repaired ( if possible )?
At Pow Wows I am available to make quick fixes to Regalia. At one pow wow I was honored when they brought me a downed Eagle Feather during activities in the Circle which fell from the Tribe's Staff, and I was able to repair it and have it returned to the Circle.
This was a blessing from Creator and Mother Earth.
Always look to the great eagle whom is the favorite bird of the Great Spirit. The eagle feather is divided into two parts, part light, and part dark, and depicts the meaning of daylight and darkness, summer and winter, peace and war, and life and death. The eagle feather is sacred to all Native Americans as the Cross is sacred to all Christians.
American Bald Eagles over Arkansas City, Kansas
Shared by Annlee
American Bald eagles were playing over the Arkansas City Fire Department building, and we had the pleasure of sitting and watching them from our swing. One flew below tree tops and swirled directly over our head, and not more than 30 feet above us.
We spotted them around 6pm and enjoyed watching three American Bald Eagles play in the air. While watching we believe it was a pair with a new yearling. We watched as one came swooping down at the smallest from a great height with claws barred. It pulled back only inches from the yearling's beak with wings acting like brakes and uplift. Spectacular to see!
I suspect it was the Mother trying to teach hunting ways to the yearling. The one we believe was the male stood way higher in the air watching the other two gliding, and diving around the Fire Department building. We watched them until just before 7pm when they all flew due South East, and out of range for our binoculars.
A blessing! Annlee
The appearance of the Eagle is always a sign unto the viewer and especially to the Native American viewer. If the Eagle soars over your home that is a Great Blessing and a vision of the Creator watching over you and yours.
Desert Rose Rock Flakes as Sacred and Great Power
By Wha-O-Chee aka pabear48
Desert Rose Rock Formations are millions of years old and the flake crystal form like the picture are the most fantastic because they are so delicate that most are long destroyed. Very rare to find!
Rose Rocks are solid and found in only 3 places upon Mother Earth. While Desert Rose Rock Flake Formations
Are found in ONLY ONE PLACE upon the Earth.
Rose Rocks are red in color!
Desert Rose Rock Formations are light brown to a whitish crystal color. Rose Rocks Red are hard rocks.
Desert Rose Rock Formations are soft and breakable.
Medicine People have always held the soft crystal Desert Rose Rock Flakes as "Sacred and Great Power".
Tradition informs us that a keeper of a Desert Rose Rock Flake Formation who carries it for three moons without it going back sand-dust is a Good Warrior, and shall have many male descendants.
They were also used to teach "the young one's" that responsibility is a practiced learning by them having them then protect a Desert Rose Rock Flake for 12 moons.
The locations of these Sacred Stones are a very Well Kept Secret by the Medicine Men.

Learning to Walk Silent?
By pabear48 as story teller
Silent Walker:
Once was man, whom Mother Earth tried to teach to walk silent within the woods.
But, man always stirred the leaves.
Man asked of mother:
"Why do leaves still still?"
Mother responded: "Because you have yet to divide yourself."
Man pondered and considered the silent walk path. Thus, the man began to renew his soul and walked with eyes stretched to visit the hawk and eagle, and to look beyond the trees, the forest and to the earth itself:
As he saw the stars glitter and moon pass over.
Then began man to journey in peace and did discover how to walk, and to see what silent had to say!
Lo and behold: One marvelous day:
THE MAN WALKED AS THE SILENT WALKER.
Mother Earth said, " Now you have found the way of insight and knowledge: One stone away".
Before the White Man

In the generations around a sole fire within the camps of the First People
is told the tales from the Elders of the "Time before the White Man".
The Native American Indians Traditions and Culture had to struggle and barely survived after the white man invaded their lands and tries wiping out their culture. They survived forced moves, diseases brought on blankets, war, starvation and finally being assimilated via Reservations into the white man culture.
Clearly, history has taught us that the Native American Indians were strong and spiritual people that through it all held strong to their Traditions and Culture and especially keeping their legends and stories from the camp fires alive even up to today. Tales, legends and stories handed down for thousands of years and generations one word at a time which speak of calm and peace, even death and living life with all things that live upon Mother Earth. For they did believe everything had it's own Spirit and these were real and part of all Creation.
They believed in the Great Spirit ( Grand Father ), but they also believed in many deities in companionship with the Earth and all things around them. They saw the Spirit in the winds, the rains and in the snow of Winters. The First People did not practice religion in a box or a building, but in every aspect of living they followed the Spirits of all things. On the reservations many were forced to accept Christianity as taught by various known religions and one was the Catholic Church and many were Baptist. Many had their hair locks chopped off and were punished if they spoke their native tongue rather than the white man English. Clearly, this was forced religion pounded upon a people. Nevertheless, today many Native Americans are Christians and some few follow the Traditions and Culture of the Generations. The point of pondering upon is should they have been forced? Should they have been beaten? Should they have been almost annihilated? Yet! They have survived and overcome all the white man brought upon them. Many today are seeking to know the sharings of the Generations once more, but the traditional storytellers are few and far between.
In the generations around a sole fire within the camps of the First People
is told the tales from the Elders of the "Time before the White Man".
And the stories told remain the only foundation to rely upon for the Traditionalist.
For thousands of years Warriors wore bone chokers which were Spiritual and also might deflect an arrow in battle?
Bone chokers are also believed to provide spiritual protection of the voice which was a gift from the story of the Bears Berry. By wearing a bone choker, the spirits of the animal they come from were believed to provide spiritual protection from all kinds of troubles and even disease.
It was said that the Spirit shall also provide a great speaking ability when wearing a properly made bone choker that always speaks the truth and guides the warrior to speak from the heart. Warriors that had been to battle always wore a bone choker which showed they were in battle with enemies of the tribe.
In many tribes the Medicine Man would create powerfully made types of bone chokers to protect the Spirit of the warrior. And some Native Americans even had vision dreams about a certain type of bone choker and then asked their tribe's Medicine Man to make it for them. Rarely would a Native American make his or her own bone choker as it required the spiritual power of the Medicine People so the bone choker would have the great spiritual powers and protections while being worn. Most were crafted from buffalo bones and a few from deer bones and very special vision dream ones could be from any animal even birds. Some bones were dyed and colored by using plants like the blueberry and raspberry or wild strawberries and even cranberries. They experimented in dying bones and sometimes even hides.
Even today in the Great Celebrations called Pow Wows beautiful bone chokers are worn in the dancing within the Great Circle. Most are made from commercial end products and yet a few are created in as close a Traditional Method as possible.

Bone Chokers To-Day are made commercially and in great numbers and yet there still are some traditional Medicine People who do hand-craft and create cultural styled bone chokers which are not commercially mass produced but are copied for mass production. And some are those actually handed down from father to son for generations. We are a proud people!
Bone Chokers To-Day are made commercially and in great numbers and yet there still are some traditional Medicine People who do hand-craft and create cultural styled bone chokers which are not commercially mass produced but are copied for mass production.
You can find them at Pow Wows by simply asking if they can craft YOU a Special Order item with the bones and decorations YOU PICK. If they can, you discovered a real traditional crafter and not a mass produced seller. It is like a REAL SEED ARTIST who can create a Special Order design of YOUR CHOICE of colored seed beads to use in the finished pattern item. Mass produced people whom are simply sellers cannot do this simple test? Hand-crafting is a learned skill and it is an art of Culture and Traditions. And, please remember just as you go to work expecting a living wage in these days: So does a genuine traditional crafter deserve the same concept and respect of their Mother earth gifted abilities as Medicine People.

In 1882 the United States Government passed laws banning and making it a crime for the Native Americans to practice their belief rights handed down for thousands of years.
U.S. Interior Secretary Henry M. Teller signed an order to end to all "heathenish dances and ceremonies on every Reservation. Supported in 1883 by Hiram Price, Commissioner of Indian Affairs in his 1883 report that stated:
"There is no good reason why an Indian should be permitted to indulge in practices which are alike repugnant to common decency and morality; and the preservation of good order on the reservations demands that some active measures should be taken to discourage and, if possible, put a stop to the demoralizing influence of heathenish rites."
This order led to the deaths (Massacre) at Wounded Knee December 29th 1890. The US Calvary was used as the arm to force this order upon the Native Americans and led to the out right killing of many Native Americans simply because they desired their own rights of religion? Ever hear of the First Amendment?
Of course, "back then" it still remained the only good Indian was the dead Indian", and the Native Americans had no rights under the White Man Constitution at that time.
Imagine for thousands of years you practiced Ceremonies and rituals that were part and partial of your Culture and Traditions not as a defined "religion" but a way of living in concert with all things around you? Then your told you shall die because of them if you do them? Ponder upon that as you read and gain deeper understanding into the Traditions and Cultures of the entire Nation.
Animals Once Talked ? 2012 New Story Sharing
Told by story teller Wha-O-Chee
Animals Once Talked ?
Many moons ago and long before the two-footed beasts appeared upon Mother Earth, the animals of the earth had voices and could talk in wide ranging conversations with the Creator of all things and of course with the Four Winds and Mother Earth.
Of all the animals the most gifted in knowledge was the turtle, and more specific the turtle called "Nodder". Now nodder was a medium size green back turtle that lived along the Great White Pine and enjoyed sun bathing upon the crystal rocks that poked from the waters. He had a good friend named "Wahtonka" who was a very fat white buffalo that roamed the Giant White Pines now and then when not eating the green grass of the plains. Wahtonka had a great gift of humor!
Many other animals lived around the waters and the Great White Pine also.
One day "Sneaky" who was a reddish brown and short haired fox was down around the waters getting a drink. He saw out on the crystal rocks sitting the wise Nodder. "Hey Nodder" he called out.
Nodder replied: "Morning Sneaky" as he raised his head to take a peek. Now Sneaky always had many reasons to converse and most of them were quite sneaky to get some thing he should not have? For Sneaky always thought of himself as quite the fox.
Sneaky called out: " Have you seen Mother Earth this day?" and Nodder replied she was by and by the Great White Pine talking with Wahtonka about going forth into the grass lands and not playing under the Great White Pine. He is so stubborn at times?
Sneaky spoke up saying: "Well I wanted to see her and ask what it is that I found just below the needles of the Great White Pine and is it good for me to eat?"
"What did you find?" asked Nodder.
" I do not know? That is why I wanted to talk with Mother Earth." stated Sneaky. "However, it is round and dark and even pink and makes funny noises? And it wiggles and crawls all around the Great White Pine. And, it smells like it would be good food to eat."
Nooder agreed it was a good question for Mother Earth.
It was then both heard the trees rumble and the ground shake and leaves were falling all over the waters. They knew it had to be Wahtonka heading on down for a drink of cold refreshing water.
As he entered the clearing Wahtonka bellowed out: "Good day Nodder and also you Sneaky". Both replied almost together to Wahtonka, "Afternoon".
Sneaky spoke up first to Wahtonka: "Is Mother Earth still around for I heard she was talking with you this day?". In response Wahtonka stated: " She was, but now she is gone to the far far place where the Moon sets along the Great Waters and will not be back this day."
"Nuts" said Sneaky for he had a question for her. Sneaky spoke up saying: "Well I wanted to see her and ask what it is that I found just below the needles of the Great White Pine and is it good for me to eat? And, it is round and dark and even pink and makes funny noises? And it wiggles and crawls all around the Great White Pine. And, it smells like it would be good food to eat."
Wahtonka broke our with a rumbled laughter. "You foolish fox always thinking of your stomach and not of the greater things upon our lands, I know what you discovered and found for I found it yesterday and also wanted to know what it is from Mother Earth but never did I consider it to be eaten or as food and fodder".
Nodder spoke: " So you do know what Sneaky also found?"
"Yes" said the deep voice of Wahtonka. "She explained it to me." And, immediately Sneaky broke in and said " Can I eat it? "
"No, No you cannot eat the dark and even pink thing that crawls. For Mother Earth told me SHE JUST MADE MAN.

A MODERN DAY STORY: A phone call from Jesus
By pabear48 (copy-protected) Original written 2001
The story time: Now ? THE TIME: Today ? THE CALLER: Jesus Christ
THE MAN: A Shepard being called:
NUMBER BEING CALLED: ( only the Father knows ? )
The Call:
It was a bright sun filled day. Sunshine dribbling as shimmering waves upon the leaves. The man was sitting behind his great white oak desk hurriedly scratching out his next great project of building and erection in the Lord's Name. While so occupied, the man hastily took notes as three young men on the ministry were each explaining the known tasks of the day.
The phone rang. The man reached quickly for his phone and pressed the seventh button which was flashing red bleeps indicating an active call coming in: The man said, " Hello, this is the ( MAN ),
May I help you today?"....The caller, whom was Jesus said, " Yes, My friend. This is your Lord. May I talk with you?"
Man: Well if you have an appointment..Oh but, I see you do not..Well if you give me time between my sixth and ninth appointment today? I just might be able to fit you in for five minutes of my precious time so you may explain what you want. You know how busy I am Lord doing your work and tending the flocks and building the churches?
Jesus: My friend. Hear My voice. I wish to speak to you right now.
Man: Well let me check and see if I can jockey my busy schedule forward to make room for you Lord. After all it's so important I keep building for the Lord's Work.
Jesus: Why cannot you hear?
MAN: These darn new computer generated phone systems are nothing but a problem Lord. Its the newest system the WORLD had to offer and was available, and it cost us over ten million to have it installed this month. It probably has a couple of bugs in it yet. But.......
Jesus: Have you thought about me today?
MAN: Lord! You are all I ever think about. I do everything I hear you tell me to do. Why, we dedicated five new buildings just this year to you Lord..Uh! Excuse me for a second will ya Lord?
MAN to one of the young men in the room around the great white oak cluttered desk all
covered with pages of quickly scribbled scriptures and notes. " Say Harry, Make
sure the cameras are set up for that crusade sermon tonight. I think! I am
receiving a message from Jesus, and I want to be sure to share it with the whole
WORLD on the main broadcast tonight. Make it offer number one-forty-nine.
MAN: Back to the phone: Sorry about that Lord. But I have allot of things going on right now. With the sermons and prayer groups, and the new cooking with Christ classes, and even the religious item home teaching bible tapes and our new outreach ministry. Sometimes, it is really confusing.
Now what did you say Lord?
Jesus: Have you prayed to me To-Day?
MAN: Lord! I am in continual prayer. Why every paying member of this ministry can swear to it on a stack of bibles without flinching. They can tell you..They all know I am praying continually. They know I have a work load which is so hard for me to bare. Why! Last week alone they can tell you Lord..I received over ten thousand hurting letters requesting prayers alone. Each one asking me for help and advice Lord. What more can they ask me to do? My ministry is under constant attack all the time. Everyone wants to be paid. I have lots of bills and good honest obligations which must be met or they will take me off the air. And....
Jesus: Have you been feeding My Sheep?
MAN: Yes Lord! Just last month we fed over one hundred thousand and distributed twenty tons of bread and rice. And, we sent ( the MAN was interrupted by the second young man in the room standing next to the great white oak desk all cluttered): Uh! Excuse me for a second Lord as someone needs a question answered, and only I can answer them. MAN to the second young man in the room: "Thomas, make sure the cameras from the news media are here tonight for the ribbon cutting ceremony. They promised full six o'clock prime coverage right on the evening news program as we dedicate this sixty-sixth wing addition to my ministry. And, remember to have all my satellites carry the Gospel of mine to the WORLD from this new wing building. It is a most glorious event and should bring in many pledges and seeds. "Uh! Sorry about that interruption again Lord. But, you know how important it is that we get my message about the Gospel to the WORLD. And, the Gospel shall be preached to the.................
Jesus: What is the Gospel My Friend?
MAN: Lord you know! I do not have to tell you Lord. It is my job just to tell the sheep led to slaughter about the Gospel. You know! The message about all your blessings for servitude to this ministry. You know what I mean Lord.
Jesus: My Friend. Do you know what you mean?
MAN: Well of course I know. That's a silly question. I know after all I have been anointed by God to tell the message to the WORLD. It pains me deeply Lord that you apparently know very little about God's message to me!
Jesus: My friend. I have no doubt what message you have heard.
MAN: "WELL praise the Lord...Yes.....( THE PHONE CALL WAS CUT OFF BY THE CALLER: BUT, THE MAN KNEW IT NOT )....as the MAN continued rattling into the phone..............
"YES! Praise the Lord. I will proclaim tonight I heard from you Lord on the perfectness of this most perfect ministry to all the sheep led to slaughter. And, SAY LORD! Could you call me back at about seven ten tonight. I promise I will air your call live to the WORLD as my programs is being telecast. What do you say about that Lord?
SILENCE ON THE LINE:
MAN: Lord! Are you still there Lord?
SILENCE ON THE LINE:
MAN: Hello Lord?
SILENCE ON THE LINE
MAN: Lord?
SILENCE:
MAN to the third young man standing next to the big white oak desk all cluttered.
" Judas, Lets announce it this way tonight about the call from Jesus..

Would you answer the call from Jesus?
How would you answer a phone call from The Lord today?

A sharing 2011 from my blog.
October 2011 a beautiful sharing question on Hray-Mah! The Earth is Gone?
On my blog for my book: Hray-Mah! The Earth is Gone? I received a question from LFOX99 that is worth a sharing upon this lens creation for this individual touched my Spirit in their search for the truth of the Scriptures.
A sharing: From a post reply to me fromLFOX99
And, my response!
Oct 23, 2011 2:37 PM LFOX99 says:
Nice post. There is something that really bothers me though with all sectors of church, and i know that it is the truth. When people dying (death) and **** will be thrown in a lake of fire, which is the second death, Jesus has these keys. This verse is perdition. Mathew 3:11-12 Luke 12:49-50 and Revelations 14:13-23 Plus in many more places does the lord proclaim the unconditional love of the father. God is perfect. God is unconditional love, and God knows all things before they happen. For anyone to live 10000 years and be wrong is unfair to burn forever. Its like we would be blank dummies unless we went through perdition first.
Hello LFOX99:
Clearly, you have read and pondered upon this and have shared what you have read and understood at this time. I thank you!
However, remember it is always the "Precept and the Concept" which the Spirit protects no matter how mankind or anyone prints our or re-writes the Scriptures into a new type Bible Translation. This one truth is paramount to the Words shared by Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
From the start of the Bible to it's last word written and shared to mankind which comes by the "Hray-Mah" of the Creator to the Scriptures original writers, and from that point of time; to all times the "Precept and the Concept" are protected by the Comforter who is the Teacher of all things as revealed by Jesus Christ of Nazareth to all the World. This is why Jesus stated simply put:"You need the Comforter" who shall reveal the truth, and it could not come until Jesus opened the doorway by His choice to die on the cross and then overcome death by rising and becoming the King of Kings.
Judgement must one day arrive upon the Creation. Just as "Sodom and Gomorrah" were destroyed, or as the Earth was covered with waters and all judged to die except those upon the Ark. Jesus came as the Savior and upon ascension became the Final Judge you are referring to in Revelations when we read of the "Left and Right" hands and those in each. All faiths around the world understand some form of final judgement is declared: Christian via Christ and Moslems via their book writings and other faiths in many different ways. Yet! All know a judgement time must come to pass or all of God's Word would fall apart.
Please read those Scripture areas once more! Read and see that in those "Hands" are all calling them self as Christians, or declare in each hand that they are Christians. Jesus judges they are not. I think this is the most powerful declaration ever given and the possibly the most frightening upon all stating they are a Christian.
My books open this truth and shares the entire "Precept and Concept" of this devastating event which must happen one day. This is the final judgement of ONLY those calling themselves as Christians and following the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. So many miss this when they read those Scriptures. I say, "Who is it that does not want them to fully read and understand them? Who is the real enemy?"
For example: In the Gospels Jesus first taught the Apostles "How" to pray with what we all know as :The Lord's Prayer" and this is good. However, Jesus also asked those following him to pray SEVEN PRAYERS! This is what that "Enemy" wants people not to see, read, comprehend and understand and of course for them "NOT TO PRAY" these requests. Ask why the main line Churches do not remind and or pray these from the pulpits? Ask who is closing readers to the simple prayers asked to be prayed?
I do not have all the answers to religion nor to the Scriptures. I have only what I have been granted to share with those who need a prompting to go back to the Word and read once more with opened eyes and ears. That is what Hray-Mah The Earth is Gone? does!
Your friend in the Gospel.

Great Bear and Fire?
It is told by our forefathers a tale of fire and the great bear that once was given the power of fire before the ones that walked upon two legs.
Now Great Bear was brown and stood as high as twenty squirrels. And, had an appetite that was unending. In the beginning Mother Nature gave Great Bear the sacred fire and told him to listen to the fire and do what fire said to do. In this Great Bear obeyed!
For you see in the beginning the world was colder than it is now and sacred fire kept the bears warm while all others chilled and felt the sting of the cold unless they wore a Great Bear robe to keep warm from the cold and to do this they hunted the Great Bear that had the power of fire. Many upon two legs did die trying to get a warm robe of the bear.
One day many moons ago it was the appetite of the Great Bear that brought about the fate of the Sacred Fire. It is said, that Great Bear had a huge fire going and it got away and started the first forest fire upon the Earth. As the fire roared Great Bear heard popping sounds coming from the black ashes as fire moved upon the ground?
Great Bear roared to all the bears and they followed him upon the ashes to discover what was making the popping sounds. They discovered roasted acorns. And, they not only smelled good to all the bears, but Great Bear said they tasted very very good.
So all the bears of the Earth followed Great Bear into the forest ashes picking up and eating the roasted acorns. As they ate and ate they were moving further and further away from the sacred fire which was their duty to keep. But, the appetite of the bears was unending and they flourished with the roasted acorns. As they gleaned the ground of acorns they moved ever deeper into the burned out forest fire upon the ground. Appetite was the fate Mother Nature forgot to consider?
Now, came the two legged creatures hunting for bear robes to keep warm in the chill of the Earth.
One warrior named Kitchegoma was at the edge of what was the forest when he heard a voice from the ground: " Feed me!"
"Feed Me!" he heard again and looked upon the ground and saw a tiny flicker of light. Kictchegoma said, " I will feed you, but I do not know what you eat nor what you are?"
" I am know as fire and I eat twigs, leaves and branches of the trees. And, if you feed me and keep me sacred to all two legged creatures I will keep you warm and teach you to cook food unending for all your tribe and clans."
Kitchegoma placed a few twigs and leaves upon the tiny little flicker upon the ground and it grew immediately and Kitchgoma felt warm for the first time of memory and without a great bear robe wrapped around. " This is a good thing", he said.
Then fire spoke once more:
I am a part of the universe and a part of the sun in the sky. I belong to all people of every color and all things upon the Earth I can destroy or give a gift of warmth and making foods taste better. I am the Sacred Fire! Upon the four winds I travel and if honored will not harm. To those who honor me with food of the cedar, tobacco and sage I shall teach them how to pray to the Great Creator of all things and shall in my smoke carry their prayers to the beginning of the Universe where they shall be heard. If you will feed me! For all things are alive and have life of their own and a Spirit within and without.
Kitchegoma lowered his head and agreed to all these things and promised all his people would honor the Sacred Fire and share of the things he has been told for all time to come. And, to this very day all tribes and the entire Nation tender the Sacred Fire with honor and respect and feed it twigs, leaves and branches and sweeten it with sage, tobacco and cedar in memory of when Great Bear lost the right of fire over a roasted acorn.
