Improve Your Word Power

From newspapers, magazines, books to radio, television and ordinary conversations we all must have read or heard many diverse, high sounding usage of words. We also must have wished at one point or another to bring in that sense of expression, richness, and vividness in our language. Although the diversity in the usage of words comes with time but also greatly requires some efforts for improvement.

Below are listed some of the major points that must be concentrated on, as they can be helpful in bringing a notable change for expansion of your vocabulary and word power.

DICTIONARY READING:

Reading a dictionary may sound like a weird idea to some, but frankly speaking it helps. As you go through the new words and their meanings, you start to learn more. The best thing while reading and learning is to use the newly learned words in sentences as they help in retaining particular words in mind. This practice also helps clarify the meanings of the words making them easier to remember, and retaining the words in mind for later usage.

THESAURUS HELPS:

For enhancing your vocabulary, a diverse use of words, the use of synonyms thesaurus plays a vital role. A dictionary may acquaint you with new words and their correct meaning but a thesaurus will help you bring about diversity and choice of words. It’s more of a delight going through thesaurus as you discover many alternate words that can be used wherever you want. To avoid repetition of one word, thesaurus is much helpful and is usually considered as a gift for those who look forward to improve their vocabulary.

WORD GAMES:

Another, one of the best methods for enhancement of the word power are the word games. These games are in the form of cross words, jumbled words and text twists. Playing these games regularly is not only interesting but also facilitates in improving the vocabulary. A great entertainment and much pleasure is involved throughout the whole process while you play and learn at the same time.

READING:

Reading, not only improves your writing skills but also helps build up your vocabulary. It broadens your horizon of thinking where you discover a variety of new words and styles that are used in the books. The significant thing which must be considered is to select a good kind of reading .A well written piece always gives you a lot of room for learning and improvement.

Those who want to improve their vocabulary should also broaden their interests with regard to reading. They must not only read books, but newspapers, magazines, and every other readable thing which can help them in getting better with the power of words. The point is to add diversity in selection of whatever you read.


OBSERVING:

A good power of observation is also something that is required. A person must try to learn about new things, look for unfamiliar words, and listen to others while carefully picking up the good words. The most important thing is to employ those words in daily usage so they can be retained well by mind but will also help in improving the conversation style.


ENJOY:

Last but not least, any learning process requires that a person should enjoy how he learns. This way the whole learning experience does not become a drag or make a person bored rather it helps in bringing pleasure with a sense of achievement.
