The Ancient Sunken City: Phangoria
Not to be confused with Space Shuttle Atlantis, Russian Atlantis is an actual place on earth: buried beneath the Black Sea off the Taman Peninsula. Under the waters lie a portion of the ancient Greek city of Phanagoria. Once a thriving trade community, The submerged ruins contain artifacts from as early as 350 B.C. The area has been Made a bit more famous in recent times because Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has spent time diving there, and found some pieces of ancient urns from among the ruins. Putin is hoping to help the Russian Geographic Society with publicity for the Phangoria Project: An Archaeological restoration of the area.
