The music of the late 70's and early 80's in Boston Massachusetts was filled with some great bands that were just a couple of steps away from getting national attention. When I was a teenager the switch from people listening to AM radio to FM radio was growing and so was the popularity of the Boston music scene. So many great bands were coming out of Boston and the end of the punk era along with the birth of new wave created some great memories for me. Although I was not going to clubs at the time, a local FM station known as WBCN was popular for not only playing the national acts but the local ones also.
I loved Rock music since childhood so I took to bands like Boston and Aerosmith, cheap trick etc. But I also liked the bands that never made it big. Bands like Human Sexual Response,The Lyres, The Atlantics, The Stompers, Robin Lane and the Chartbusters, the Del Fuegos, The Neighborhoods, John Butcher Axis, and many others made Boston a great place to listen and discover new music styles and fall in love with great songs!
I recently rediscovered a lot of these bands thanks to Youtube. I had been checking Youtube to see if there was any of these videos on there for a couple of years but didn't find any until recently. Now Youtube is flooded with these great old videos of some of the best Boston had to offer. Some of them you may know like the Fools and John Butcher Axis are a couple of other of the minor successful bands but I think you may come to enjoy these choice selections from other bands that never quite made it nationally. Here are a few of the bands that I liked, you can look up the others on Youtube. I do not own the rights to any of these videos and I am sharing them with you just to help people discover or rediscover some great songs! Enjoy!
