James Bond 007: Skyfall, review
007: Skyfall
PG-13, ****, 2012
Starring: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw
Director Sam Mendes, who is known for some award winning drama such as “American Beauty,” and Tom Hank’s “Road to Perdition,” directs this 007 story, which is different from all other bond films.
Daniel Craig stars as 007 for the third time. This flick is more of a personal Bond film. This time, we see Craig as Bond, on another adventure. MI6 comes under attack, and Bond must track down and destroy the villain Silva, (Javier Bardem, “No Country For Old Men,” “The Resident”).
007’s latest mission has gone completely awry. It results in the several undercover agents to become know which results in the attack on M16. M (Judi Dench, all the other James Bond films) plans to relocate the agency, emerging Chairman of the Intelligence and Security, Mallory (Ralph Fiennes, “Red Dragon,” “The English Patient”) raises concerns about her competence while trying to get her to resign so he can take over her position.
We have a new “Q” played by Ben Whishaw (a youngster) becomes an important ally to help bond figure out the technical side of what Silva (a former agent gone hostile) has done to the MI6 intelligence information. And Bond has only one field agent helping him through the mess Eve (Naomie Harris). Also, Albert Finney stars in this long running spy series.
As in all Bond films, there are some cool scenes: an awesome sailboat, a stone mansion named, “Skyfall,” – apparently the Bond family estate, (looking like it was decorated from the furniture store, Restoration Hardware) some explosions, and Bond being held captive by (Javier Bardem with some seriously gross bleached-locks).
My favorite parts of these films are always the beginning theme songs and video. This time Adele, the amazing Brit-songstress sings the movie titled song: “Skyfall,” and co-wrote it to boot! This 007 can wait for DVD!
