Romance, Romance, and More Romance!

There is no dearth of romance in Bollywood. The nineties, however, saw romantic Hindi music that was in a league of its own. You are about to embark on a journey of melody and passionate hearts!

1.

How cute and fuzzy this one is! One of the very top Bollywood favourites of yours truly, this is definitely a must on the listening list of anyone fresh in love!

Beautiful moments are created when this song is listened to, especially because memories and hopes for the future come flooding in!

This one is especially special for the young lad in college who constantly dreams about that one girl in class who he simply cannot stop day dreaming about. Actually winning that girl, is, of course, a very long way off, but songs like this can fill him with an incredible amount of the fuel that determination is!

2.

You might have forgotten this one, but listen now, and let those precious memories flood in! Music back then was pristine and largely original!

3.

'Barsaat' was a massive blockbuster when it was released in 1995. The songs from this lovely film continue to pull at the strings of the heart, whether one is in love or not!

4.

Aren't you surprised at the number of unexpected songs on this list? I'm glad you are!

This one is from 'Akele Hum Akele Tum'. Notice how young both Amir Khan and Manisha Koirala look! The film is a bit of a drag, like loads of other Indian films from the 90s, but the music is spectacular, although one must admit that some of the tunes are copied from the West.

Why Bollywood Movies are Outrageously Romantic

Reasons
An outrageously attractive heroine
A hunk of a hero (sometimes we need to imagine)
Family elders who will not allow lovers to unite
Romantic music
Crazy dance sequences in Switzerland
The heroine dreams of the hero
The hero and heroine almost smooch (only almost)
People find them romantic

5.

It would have been extremely odd if this masterpiece by the Mozart of Madras, A.R. Rahman, did not make this list.

Every little element of this song cries out for your attention. What one experiences when listening to this one is an overdose of the senses, and there is no respite, even long hours after the song has ended!

Rahman has managed to maintain his quality for a long, long time, although none of the songs he makes nowadays quite match up to this ethereal one set in a very quality film by the excellent film-maker, Mani Rathnam.

6.

Let's face it. This one is probably your ringtone, like it is for a whole load of people in India. And, this song came out over 20 years ago. Speaks loads about its ever enduring popularity!

7.

When the shirtless wonder walks by, everyone salutes. And he rides incredible bikes and gets a whole load of young lads to dance with him while he declares his timeless love the lady of his dreams!

8.

Shah Rukh Khan was common household talk back in 1997 when the musical 'Dil To Pagal Hai' was released.

This song begins with whistling (with tons of reverb of course), and then progresses to an interesting dance fest between the boys and girls. And beyond that, there's some neat bollywood romance.

9.

This one is almost undoubtedly the most famous bollywood song from the 1990s, from a film that for long held the box office record in India. Enjoy its timeless allure!

10.

When King Khan makes his debut, he does so with a bang. 'Baazigar' was not only Shah Rukh Khan's debut, but also Kajol's and Shilpa Shetty's. The pretty 18 year old lass of that time now owns an IPL franchise, The Rajasthan Royals!
