5 Alternative Xmas Songs

Updated on December 21, 2014

Although I dig cheesy "traditional" tunes, too much of "Jingle Bell Rock" is overwhelming. This list is for anyone who needs a break from overplayed radio in department stores everywhere.

1) "Christmas List" Simple Plan

This is a bratty song but growing up with the band's music, I feel like it's just another one of their tongue-in-cheek moments. It's addictive, and will always be one of my favorite Christmas songs.

2) "Merry Christmas (I don't want to fight tonight)" The Ramones

R.A.M.O.N.E.S. That is all.

3) "Horchata" Vampire Weekend

Ok, so technically this isn't a "Christmas" song, but let's be honest. The album Contra has become a December ritual for people who love Indie music. If I don't listen to Contra while drinking Horchata, Christmas never feels right.

4) "I Wish It Was Christmas Today" Julian Casablancas

SNL fanatics love the original tune with Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz, but Julian does a pretty cool version.

5) "Christmas Song" The Ravonettes

I found this beauty via the film Christmas with the Kranks, and ever since it has been one of my favorites

BONUS

Anyone remember Steven Tyler singing my favorite "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" on Lizzy Maguire? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeoaaDn7ySE

Am I missing a good song? Let me know in the comments!!
