North West and 50 More Unique Celebrity Baby Names

Updated on June 25, 2013
Source

With the arrival of Kim and Kanye’s little girl, the world breathlessly waited for that special baby moniker that would announce her as part of the Kardashian dynasty. But, fans may have been surprised when the much anticipated name didn’t begin with “K”, a la Kris, Kylie, Kendall, Khloé, Kourtney, Kim and, don’t forget, Kanye, but instead it began with North and ended with West...that’s right, Kimye’s little bundle is named North West.

Granted, Kim and Kanye aren’t the first celebrity parents to come up with a unique, and widely discussed, name for their newborn. In fact, uncommon baby naming has become rather commonplace in Tinseltown.

Below are 50 of some of the most unconventional, and bizarre, celebrity baby names in Hollywood history.

Some of these aren't bad, Willow is different but still not that hard for people to understand.

Moxie CrimeFighter, though? That's a lifetime of therapy waiting to happen to me. I understand people want to give their kids cool names but you have to consider the consequence even if you are famous.

      Interesting list for sure.

There are some that are actually quite lovely. Overall, though, I am against saddling your child with an unusual name because of the reactions they will have when they are in school and beyond. I understand why people do it, but I'm not sure it is a great idea. :) Interesting hub my friend, and I hope you are doing well.

I like the idea of unusual or different names. I actually like Harper. I wouldn't want to have my kids teased at school though if they had a really odd name. Interesting hub.

Alecia, I think Moxie CrimeFighter is by far the most unusual name I've ever heard! I think Willow is unique, but nice. Thank you for being my first commentator!

Hi Billy, all is well. Busier than ever. Thank you for your comments. I changed the title to unique. I think some are more unique than unusual. and, I think some parents should think about their kids a little more when choosing a name. LOL. Thanks for your comments as usual! I hope all is well for you.

europewalker, I like different and unique names, but not to the detriment of the kids getting teased either. I appreciate your comments.

Celebrities can really surprise guys with their funny if not entertaining baby names. The good thing is that they always get away with it.

Carl8033 you are so right about that. Something about celebrities make things that would ordinarily be taboo, seem okay, sort of. LOL. Thanks for stopping by.

What a interesting hub! I have heard of some of the unusual celebrity baby names but to see 50 of them at one place was really entertaining. Names like Moxie CrimeFighter or Pilot Inspektor are not names for a human being. I feel sorry for those kids. Celebrity or not, a name is something you carry your whole life and what if a child doesn't like the name or is teased because of it.

DDE, thank you for your thoughtful comments! Yeah, I couldn't get a good shot of Beyonce's daughter's face. Jay Z was standing in my way when I was trying to snap the photo, and he would not move! LOL. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Janet, I agree! I'm not sure why some parents don't think about the negative repercussions these names could have on their kids. Thankfully, the kids can change them when they get older. Thanks, as usual, for your comments.

Nice hub. But what paculiar types of anmes do they select for their kids. Won't it upset the kids when they grow up? However your hub is really very interesting.

Fascinating work you have produced, so interesting. It appears that there is little evidence of real thinking about the effect of some of the more outlandish monikers would have on the children. Other different names are quite beautiful, thank you for writing up this interesting hub.

Interesting and amusing...okay...maybe I should not say amusing but I do admit some of these make me say Hmmmm and they weren't even in that category. Now I taught school for 40 years and bless those little dolls...some of the names have a LOT of letters...a lot for a little one to learn...but no doubt their famous parents will teach them early...they will probably see their names often before they even have to spell and write them. :)

Thanks for sharing...it is always fun and interesting to read these....I kind of wonder why they didn't name the baby "True North" (West)...:)

Angels are on the way ps

pstraubie48, thanks for reading. Wow, you taught for 40 years?! You must have heard a lot of very unique names. I guess kids learn early on to adapt to their names. I know I did. You learn to accept it and appreciate it more when you get older. Hopefully...

Mommymay, the name North is not bad at all. I think paired with the West- North West, throws people off. I like the nickname, Nori, that they've chosen too.

My goodness, what an interesting list of unique names. You did a lot of research to put this together! I do think a unique and meaningful name is important, but I also think parents should think about their child's future and not just their own whim. After all, the child will have to live with that name until they're old enough to change it! : )

Speechless over here...lol! Just when I thought 'Blue-Ivy' and 'North West' were a bit intriguing and distinguished, here I get hit with even more names of a bigger phenomenon that has me wondering if there is deliberate intent to dish out some of these astonishing titles.

I refuse to believe that the parents are too naïve to realize the potential dangers (bullying, harassment, etc) of 'overly' unique names. Hate to think of them as being selfish either. So, I wonder....I just wonder what exactly is the intent, thought process and motivation behind some of these 'unique' names. Excellent hub by the way.

Think it is fine for wealthy celebrities to be so avant gard ,but in the real world where employers poor over resumes' and kids compete to get into certain schools. Having an odd name may not make you stand out in away that is good if you are not Kim Kardashians daughter. The kid with the weird name is always trying to proof to the world they are not weird. If one has to give an odd name , to honor a deceased relation or such, I would opt to make it the middle name.

Rebecca, you bring up so many good points. You are right, a celeb can name their child any name they choose and most likely the child won't have any backlash for it, but not the same for every day folks. Thanks for your comments!
