A Hubpage Member Request

The Original Donny Hathaway- What's Going On

As a Hubpage member I am requesting assistance with a mental debate concerning which version of What's Going On is the very best. I have heard all three and all of them seem to capture the spirit of what was happening during the time of the original recording. There were Pickett signs, water hoses, dogs, marches and full scale murder at this time. So when I hear the song recorded multiple times I am concern as to what occurred, progress or regress. When Donny Hathaway burst on the seen it was similar to the sun rising after a long dark period. He similar to so many African-American artist started in the Church. Donny, then went on to study classical piano. It was said of him that he reach a point when he was ahead of the institution. Many of his peers indicate during interviews he was a genius. I will add the shortest clip available from Youtube of this artist.

Marvin Gaye- The Copy

Marvin Gaye would recorded "What's Going On" for another generation and it too would seem to capture in a continuum, in a similar vein of what was still present in America and now had made the world toxic with this Idea. However, when Marvin recorded it in a style that was exclusive to him, even under the influence, and under great pressure, His rendition of the song was as poignant as Mr. Hathaway"s version, people dance, thought, and had great conversation. The great Comedian Richard would weight in on the spirit of America at this time and make people laugh when they should have been crying.

Ohio Players- The Second Copy

The Ohio Players hit the musical seen during the mid-seventies and they were on fire as one of the songs implies. The group is better know for songs such as Fire, honey, Roller Coaster and I want to be free. This is the song played during the stand-up on King of Comedy staring Steve "now on family feud" Harvey. I will include a clip and the reader or member do not have to listen to the entire musical clip to make a decision but a decision must be made.

Summary

This particular song was recorded by two solo artist and a group. My question is what is really going on in America. It seems that three generation have encountered the same experience that would cause them to shed light on the subject from a musical approach. I am a firm believer that covertly many progressive move have regressed faster to t he rear than they did to the front.

Well, this is happening in many countries of the world, so its nothing new. However nothing to beat the original as I feel it.
