Machines That Help Us Enjoy Life. Do They Control Us?
Can We Enjoy Our Lives During this Pandemic Through Machines?
In a recent broadcast correspondent Ju Ju Chang of Good Morning America revealed a, “New book takes on technology and modern families.” Celebrities were mentioned such as Anderson Cooper, Neal Patrick Harris and #Kim Kardashian, “all relying on modern breakthroughs like #ibf. Should l start my career or wait for my career? Our grandmother didn’t have these decisions to make they just happened. The name of the book #Work, Mate, Marry, Love. How Machines Shape Our Human Destiny by Debora L. Spar.“ How do we fare today with so much technology intertwined in our lives? Ju Ju continued the interview with Harvard University professor Spar in an attempt to answer these questions based on her book. “Love argues that machines shaped humans throughout history. Farm and later factories divided gender roles with mostly men working and women turning into housewives. Thankfully machines over time came to the rescue. Dr. Spar said, ‘Women no longer have to spend thirty hours a week doing laundry and the canning and the pickling and the food preparation. So feminism was created by the pill but by the washing machine as well.’” The majority of us would have to agree with Dr. Spar because these machines certainly have made our lives easier which give us time as parents to pursue our careers or hobbies. The beloved dishwashing machine has saved many marriages over the years.
News correspondent Ju Ju Chang presented additional evidence as she stated, “Beyond domesticity, technology today continues to redefine love and sex in the age of #Instagram and Tinder. Dr. Spar said, ’Online sites, it’s hard to talk about this without doing a finger motion or raising a generation that is use to swiping right and swiping left and becoming overwhelmed by all this choice. Ju Ju sometimes too many choices means no choices at all. Too much choices become paralyzing.’”
The discussion of our love for our cellphones mentioned some interesting points. How do we feel when we leave our cellphones at home? Do we experience a certain amount of anxiety? Honestly, my children get more concerned than l do because they can’t locate me. Ju Ju gave the interesting illustration about the, “2013 movie Her where Jaquin Phoenix’s character becomes attached to his viral assistant. She’s not a real person. That’s a Hollywood version of humans falling in love with robots but Spar says reality is closer to the relationship we already have to our smart phones. ‘Dr. Spar said, It’s not sexual, it’s not romantic but if you leave your phone behind? If you break your phone? You feel something. You feel an emotion because we are connected to these machines. While we are all living our lives on Zoom it’s only going to consolidate it because look at what you and l are doing right now. We are having what feels like it is a perfectly normal, human conversation and yet we are not in the same state. So if you are actually not real and you were a very smart animated avatar it might not know.’” Ju Ju jokingly asked, “How do you know I’m not?“ Dr. Spar responded, “I don’t know that you are real.” Laughing Ju Ju reassured us, “You guys know l’m real for the record but whether it’s #Alexa or Suri, visual reality or robot assist even automated phone trees. We interact with computers more and more everyday and these shape almost every part of the human experience. The book is called Work, Mate, Marry, Love. How Machines Shape Our Human Destiny.”

I reminised on old photos of a gathering my husband Walker and l attened before his death. During Sinbad’s standup performance, we laughed at some of the things we knew were true regarding certain characteristics of a woman or a man. Sinbad's standup routine was definitely “a thumbs up," for couples or individuals in search of clean comedy and a fun nIght of streaming his comedy on #Netflix. If nothing else, you will leave in a spirit of joy, due to laughter and individual observation of yourself. #Comedians that constantly curse and use derogatory language, can sometimes cause you to miss out on the joke because you remain somewhat on the defense. On your next evening out or whether you quarantined due to the pandemic with your mate or as a single individual, try to find a comedian that considers your feelings and intellect.
A Celebration for 60 Years of Marriage
Before the death of my father-in-law Walker Carter, my in-laws celebrated sixty years of marriage, a remarkable feat that was not only inspirational to Walker and Susie Carter but also the participants of this special event. Promoter, Rick Coley of Now That's Entertainment, organized an evening that encompassed creative entertainment, good food and dancing. The very talented Ronn Jaimz, sang Smokey Robinson's popular song "Cruisin." His smooth, romantic voice filled the beautifully decorated room of Celebrations with love and fond memories. Ronn had the swagger of Charlie Wilson, as he performed a special rendition to the couple married for sixty years, #What You Won't Do For Love. Peggy Murphy, another very talented entertainer, also performed her hit called, Misty. She had the authentic charisma of female artists from the 60's and 70's. Peggy also recorded another hit entitled, Baby Be Mine which she performed for the audience as well.
Celebrations, entertainment facility had an encircled room with lights that emanated from the center of the dance floor which gave its guests a cozy feeling. It was located in Wilmington, Delaware and was perfect for charming anniversary celebrations or dinner shows. The promoter and his crew, decked the room out in elegant colors of black and gold as their theme. A delicious buffet was served of grilled salmon, chicken, roasted potatoes, string beans and a variety of drinks were provided by Verna, Trish, AC, Blair and the staff of Celebrations. For dessert, a luscious chocolate cake was served which Walker and Susie, the anniversary couple, cut and shared a sixty years of marriage piece together. They also hit the dance floor as Walker Carter, led his bride of sixty years. They danced off of, I Only Have Eyes For You. Photographers ran to the dance floor to capture this precious moment that will remain in the minds of onlookers forever. We witnessed the pinnacle of what marriages can and should be. I still have beautiful photos of that special event we can look back on as a family and cherish.
Susie and Walker, remained faithful, in that holy state of matrimony before their Heavenly Father Jehovah, all those years until his death. Through various trials, tribulations and lack of perfection, they applied Genesis 2:24, "A man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh." This couple of sixty years, raised eight children, have numerous other friends and family. They stuck together through good and bad times, in total reliance of their #Grand Creator, based on statements made by both Walker and Susie over the past years. The evening ended with guests doing such dances as The Electric Slide, Cha Cha Slide and numerous other oldie but goodie songs. This type of celebration was not only fun but inspirational to all participants that were present.
