ABC's Flash Forward Will Not Return to Airwaves in the Fall of 2010.

Updated on April 17, 2011

Flash Forward

Popular ABC show set to end May 27th

If you are fans of the ABC TV Drama Flash Forward like my wife and I, you will be saddened to find out May 27, 2010, will be the last episode. ABC released its TV schedule for the Fall of 2010 and Flash Forward was not listed on the schedule. Flash Forward has had some very high acclaim when first aired on September 24, 2009.

For those of you not familiar with the show, it revolves around the premise of everyone in the world becomes unconscious on October 6, 2009, for two minutes and seventeen seconds. Everyone during the blackout sees a glimpse of their future on April 29, 2010. Some people do not see a glimpse of their future.

The FBI office in the Los Angeles spearhead by FBI Assistant Director Stanford Wedeck (played by Courtney B. Vance), assigns FBI Special Agents Mark Benford (played by Joseph Fiennes) and Demetri Noh (played by Jonathan Cho) help investigate the cause of the "flashforward". Benford's "flashforward" focuses on him piecing together the clues of what led to the global blackout. Benford is attacked in his office by mysterious men in masks and assault weapons. Also, Benford is shown drinking in his flashforward. Benford's character is a recover alcoholic.

The FBI team focuses on "Suspect Zero", the only person shown conscious during the blackout, "D. Gibbons", why there was a mass loss of consciousness of people in Somalia in 1991.

Other personal revelations appear such as Demetri Noh not having a flashforward because he was to die but he ends up living, Olivia Benford (played by Sonya Walger) sees herself having an affair with Lloyd Simcoe (played by Jack Davenport), and Aaron Stark (played by Brian F. O'Byrne) also a recovering alcoholic seeing himself with his daughter Tracy in Afghanistan.

Characters Dr. Lloyd Simcoe and Dr. Simon Campos (played by Dominic Monaghan) believe they are responsible for causing the global blackout. We learn in later episodes, "Suspect Zero" is Simon Campos.

Flashforward is a very gripping drama from beginning to end. It is a unique blend of police investigation meets science fiction. The show started with very strong ratings in the fall of 2009 but what hurt the show was long hiatus from mid-December to mid-March. That hiatus hurt the ratings for the show.

On May 14, 2010, ABC released their Fall 2010 schedule and Flashforward was not renewed. However, the show "V" was renewed but will show in January 2011. I encourage fans of Flashforward to email and call ABC if you want to bring it back on the air.

This show, I believe has a future. If ABC cannot bring it back, hopefully, one of the other major networks or cable networks can pick up this very gripping show. This show is too not to be back on the airwaves. Thursday nights at 8PM Eastern/7PM Central will not be the same after May 27th.
