Updated on January 25, 2018

The beginning of her stardom

The actress Andrea Elson is a green eyed beauty who has turned many heads with her career in her hey days. She was born in New York, on March 6, 1969, an Aries and has a sister Samantha. She had her early years in San Diego, California for four years, before the family returned to Westchester, New York. She was a child and teen actress and also pursued many roles throughout.

Before the age of ten, the actress had been to San Diego, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. She got an agent while at San Diego, and won her first part that she auditioned for, which was for a commercial. Her tryst with acting began at a very early age, when at 11 she was part of a school production of Alice in Wonderland. Following that, she began her acting career for real, when she landed a role for the television series Whiz Kids on CBS at age 14. It was an adventure series which followed the trails of young detectives unravelling cases with the help of a talking computer. Elson portrayed Alice Taylor and co-starred with three others, Mathew Laborteaux, Jeremy Jaquet, and Todd Porter. Although the show only had one season in all, she and her co-stars shot to fame with it, being featured across a number of popular teen magazines of the time. Her modelling career no doubt received its boost as well, being featured in many popular magazines such as Bop, Teen Beat and 16 Magazine. She was also invited along with the rest of the crew from Whiz Kids to be part of the 1983 Episode of Simon and Simon in a crossover episode.

Her career path

Her next significant career move was her role on the situational comedy series on NBC, ALF. The show had Andre Elson starring as a teenage daughter in a suburban middle class family, who ends up adopting a friendly extra-terrestrial. The extra-terrestrial was a puppet, whose role was executed by the reputed puppeteer Paul Fusco. This series ran for four seasons, and also won Andrea still more limelight, with a Youth in Film Award nomination coming her way. However, the series ultimately was cancelled in 1990. Andrea Elson is reported to have struggled with an eating disorder bulimia, during season 2 of ALF. This disorder has plagued many famous celebrities including Princess Diana and involves excess eating and then purging the food post consumption.

She also had a number of guest roles across many other popular television series as her popularity did not fade out immediately. She landed guest roles on many popular television shows including Simon and Simon in 1981, Silver Spoons in 1982. She was also seen essaying guest roles on Who’s The Boss, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Mad About You, Step by Step, The Young and the Restless and ABC After School Special. She also had a guest role in television films Frankenstein: The College Years as well as Class Cruise.

Personal life

Elson’s personal life took a turn in 1993, when she married the production Assistant from her hit show on NBC, Scott Hopper and has one child with him, born in 1996, named Claire. Andrea Elson did flourish in her acting and modelling days but has retired since then from the limelight and has been last seen to be working as a yoga instructor in the year 2010.
