Angelina Jolie Movies - From Teen Model To Oscar Winning Actress And Humanitarian

Born in 1975 to actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, Angelina Jolie began her career as a teen model in London, New York and Los Angeles.

She made her acting debut alongside her father in "Lookin' To Get Out" in 1982 when she was just seven years old. After her modeling career, she began making movies, and within a few years she had won her first Golden Globe for a TV mini series about George Wallace. That was quickly followed by another Globe for her role in the HBO movie "Gia", and then another Golden Globe and an Academy Award for her role in "Girl, Interrupted" the following year.

From there her career took off, and while on location in Cambodia to shoot "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" her life was changed again when she became aware of the plight of refugees and the poor. Since then she has been actively involved in many humanitarian efforts, and is now a Good Will Ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

Today she spends most of her time on her humanitarian efforts, and devotes one third of her income from film roles on charitable causes.

An Angelina Jolie Movies List

"Salt" Video on Demand and Blu-ray

Salt (2010)

In a role originally intended for Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie portrays a CIA who is accused of being a double agent by a Russian spy. Jolie's agent Evelyn Salt is a well-respected operative, and at first no one believes that she could be working for the enemy.

But soon her actions in trying to defend her good name begin to raise suspicions - could she actually be a Russian agent working undercover?

"Kung Fu Panda" on Blu-ray & DVD

Kung Fu Panda (2008)

In 2008, Angelina Jolie lent her voice as the character Tigress in the CG-animated "Kung Fu Panda". Tigress is one of the "Furious Five", a legendary group of warriors idolized my Jack Black's lead character, Po. Despite his clumsiness, this panda is destined to become the Dragon Warrior and unite with the Furious Five to defeat Tai Lung and save his village.

Gia (1998)

Angelina Jolie turns in a Golden Globe winning performance in this true story based on the life of top 1970;s fashion model Gia Caragni. This HBO film follows Gia from age 17 through the tumultuous downward spiral involving sex and drug abuse and her eventual early death at age 26. Jolie's powerful performance earned her her second Golden Globe Award.

"The Good Shephers" on DVD & On Demand

The Good Shepherd (2006)

In "The Good Shepherd", Angelina Jolie plays the wife of Edward Wilson (played by Matt Damon), one of the men who helped found the CIA. The movie tells of the early days of America's spy agency. Directed by Robert De Niro and filled with top-caliber talent like Alec Baldwin, Joe Pesci, William Hurt, Timothy Hutton and John Turturro in supporting roles, the film was not successful with critics or audiences.

"Mr & Mrs Smith" on Blu-ray & DVD

Mr & Mrs Smith (2005)

"Mr and Mrs Smith" was a critical flop but a commercial success, possibly due in part to the controversy surrounding the personal lives of its two stars, Angelia Jolie and Brad Pitt, who became romantically involved following the movie's production. The movie tells the story of two assassins married to each other - their secret identities are secure until each of them is hired to kill the other!

"Wanted" on Blu-ray & DVD

Wanted (2008)

"Wanted", adapted from the comic book series of the same name, tells the story of a secret league of elite assassins. Wesley Gibdon, played by James McAvoy, is recruited to join the group under the tutelage of Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. This action hit is filled with wild stunts and a fast-paced plot.

Shark Tale (2004)

The Oscar-nominated animated film is a cross between "Finding Nemo" and "Goodfellas"! Will Smith provides the voice of Oscar, a fish who gets the credit for killing a local shark and becomes a local celebrity. Angelina Jolie plays a gold-digging fish who cozies up to the now-famous Oscar.

"Girl, Interrupted" on DVD

Girl, Interrupted (1999)

Angelina Jolie turns in an Academy Award winning performance as a troubled patient in a mental institute in the 1960s. Winona Ryder plays the lead character in this fact-based story, which has been called a female version of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". The movie also co-stars Clea DuVall, Brittany Murphy and Elizabeth Moss as fellow patients.

"Gone In 60 Seconds" on Blu-ray & DVD

Gone In 60 Seconds (2000)

In this remake based loosely on the 1974 original, Angelina Jolie plays a master car thief who must help her old boss, played by Nicolas Cage, steal 50 specific luxury cars in just a few days. This is a star-filled fun ride, full of sexy cars, fast paced action and impressive stunt driving. Not a masterpiece, just a fun ride!

Original Sin (2001)

Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie star in this erotic thriller about a man who uses a matchmaker to find himself a wife. There's more to this mail-order bride than expected, and his obsession and her lies and deception lead to the destruction of his entire life. One of the most overlooked Angelina Jolie movies, this film is either loved or hated by most who watch it!

"Changeling" on Blu-ray & DVD

Changeling (2008)

In her second Oscar-nominated role, Angelina Jolie plays a distraught mother during the Great Depression whose son has disappeared. When the corrupt LAPD tries to "solve" the case by passing off another boy as her missing son, Jolie takes on the corrupt officers and remains determined to find her real son. Directed by Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood.

"Beowulf" on Blu-ray & DVD

Beowulf (2007)

One of the early adapters of the latest 3D technology, director Robert Zemekis' "Beowulf" brings back to life the ancient fable of a monster and the man charged with killing it. Computer animated motion-capture technology (similar to what Zemekis used to make "The Polar Express") is used to transform the actors into their cinematic alter-egos, with Roy Winstone as the heroic Beowulf, Crispin Glover as the monster Grendel and Angelina Jolie as Grendel's mother. A fun ride filled with action, this is no scholarly retelling of the classic tale!

"Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" on Blu-ray & DVD

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)

Based on the 1990s video game, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" was Angelina Jolie's first foray into the action blockbuster, and she did not disappoint! She lends her toned-up curvaceousness as the buxom Lara Croft, aristocrat and swashbuckler, who must prevent a secret society from destroying the world. This involves lots of stunts and daring adventures in outlandish locales. A fun ride if you can avoid trying to take any of it seriously!

    Great List,

My fav is "Wanted" for it's originality and unique screen play. Angelina was stunningly mysterious as usual and for a "Non Blockbuster" that didn't get much publicity I found it enjoyable. Sometimes those are the best.....
