Ghana comedy series skinnygirl in transit
Skinny girl in transit
A dramatic mother
The first time I saw the title of this series I thought it was going to be a losing weight diary or maybe just a set of exercises over a couple of weeks, boy was I wrong and I am so glad that I clicked on the video.
In the first episode of this comedy the character that captivated me was the mother, mmmh mmhh mmmh I know African mothers are said to be full of drama but this one takes the cup. I swear you have to see it to believe it drama drama drama! She is concerned about her daughter's unmarried status and she is determined to see her married even if she has to manipulate her by begging, pretending to cry, giving her speeches, you should see Tiwa's facial expressions when the mother starts carrying on. The lady who plays the part of the mother Ngozi Nwosu just does it so effortlessly its amazing. This was my first time seeing this lady in any production but her acting is so mature and seamless it really feels like she is an experienced actress.
So the series is based on the life of Tiwalade a radio personality who has recently been dumped by her boyfriend Kola. she still lives with her parents, has a younger sister who she calls a man wrapper who is obsessed with her looks and through the season we see Tiwa trying to do something about her weight after her mother tells her that she was praying and was told by the Holy spirit that she must help herself and lose some weight. Of course Tiwa does not believe her mom but it makes her think about doing something about her weight and start exercising. The plot develops from there and we see Tiwa finding love again and in the end realizing that it is not always about losing weight but being comfortable in the skin you are in.
I really loved this series it was an unexpected gem. It is funny and witty and the episodes are only about 10minutes each if that. This show is available on YouTube on the NdaniTV platform and best of all its free. The picture quality is good and the actors did a good job I would like to see a second season to be honest but from my experience with NdaniTV most of the time they take too long to release a second season or they don't release one at all which is very annoying. I would also like to see longer episodes if there is a season 2 but overall they did a good job.
