"Bad Moms" Movie Review
Amy is a mom who does it all. She works full-time for part-time pay, she takes care of her two kids and supports a lazy husband all the while trying to keep up with PTA meetings and her kids' school activities. Just when she thinks things are stressful enough, she comes home to find her husband cheating on her. She and two friends decide enough's enough. They're going to splurge on themselves for a change.
The film is fun and most of the jokes are right-on. But, the film has the problem that most adult comedies have, and that's that one scene that is just completely awkward and unnecessary, and also that one character that you can't like. Carla, played by Kathryn Hahn, is obnoxious and annoying. Most of the time that Carla is on-screen, you want to punch her. The jokes she tells aren't funny but perhaps they would have been if she had either been written better or acted better. The awkward scene was also because of Carla. Honestly, it shouldn't have even been written into the film. It was completely unnecessary and it wasn't even funny.
Besides Kathryn, the rest of the cast was wonderful. Mila Kunis was delightful as always and Kristen Bell brought most of the humor to the film. Christina Applegate makes a turn to the bad side as the "villain" of the story. Usually, Christina plays the ditz or the funny girl, but in this, she was actually rather mean, which was a nice change for her.
In conclusion, Bad Moms was a decent film. It had heart, it had humor, and it had realism. It brought to the screen what all moms experience and gave what all moms wish to experience. It's a good film, definitely worth seeing, just don't expect a "laugh so hard you pee yourself" type of film. 2.5 out of 4.
