Interesting Films for Boring Times
Feeling Stuck?
Good films are sometimes rare to come upon. And especially ones you want to watch when you are bored. Ones that are not too cliche, do not have that deep of a story or ones that are not too difficult to understand and follow. I, myself, as a huge film fanatic, have undergone a search of some of the best easy films to watch when I feel like doing nothing. Especially now, with the corona virus going around faster that it should, we are all up in our homes, bored as one could be. At least I know that I am. I have been doing nothing, but watching movies and TV these past few days. Therefore, I think I am capable enough to give you my recommendations.
5. My Best Friend's Wedding
A film that brings back lots of memories.. I remember watching this with my mum awhile back. It is definitely one of those good Julia Roberts films that you learn to cherish even more as the time goes by. The nostalgic feelings this movies brings up in me... It follows Julianne as she finds out that her best friend is getting married, therefore, decides to sabotage the wedding and make him hers. Such a great rom-com perfect and suitable for everyone. Just get a bag of popcorn and enjoy the experience this movie is. And I must mention the song 'I Say A Little Prayer', which in my opinion, it is one of the most memorable and iconic songs used in movies. I loved hearing it in the film. It is just, overall, a great, chill film that will make you feel satisfied in the end.
4. Ready Or Not
After marrying the love of her dreams, Grace decides to go, together with him, to his luxurious family's estate, where she is awaited by something completely unimaginable. She has to play hide and seek with his family, but the catch is that if they find her, they will kill her. That is how this funny, yet thrilling film starts off. It kind of reminded me of Jordan Peele's Get Out, but this one is way funnier. However, Get Out is definitely better, so you should also watch that one if you haven't. This one's more humor filled and it just all together an intriguing film that manages to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole film. It came out in 2019, but I have not heard that many people talk about it. But you might as well check it out.
3.The Diary of a Teenage Girl
Directed by Marielle Heller, starring Bel Powley and Alexander Skarsgard, comes a coming of age story that everyone could learn something from. At first, it seems like it is about a teenage girl falling for her mother's boyfriend. I am not going to lie, initially, I did think it was a bit weird, but once you watch it, you start to get its premise. It is truly about figuring yourself out, learning to love yourself. Trying out new things, but knowing the boundaries, exploring the world around you. Trying not to hurt the ones you love, but if you do, then apologize and learn. At least that is what I got from it. But others could understand it differently and that is the fun in films, everyone interprets them differently. And that is why I encourage everyone to see this film and each film that you could get your hands on.
"Maybe nobody will ever love me. But maybe it's not about being loved by somebody else."
2. Stella's Last Weekend
Stella's Last Weekend is a family drama, directed by Polly Draper and starring her sons Alex and Natt Wolff. It is film that popped out of nowhere, but still managed to leave an impact on me. It follows two brothers as they navigate through their lives together and falling for the same girl. Although it does sound a bit cliche, it truly is a great movie worth watching. It talks about family and shows a different side of it. It complements some funny aspects, some serious and some sad. It is a film well written, well acted and well directed. All in all, a hidden gem I am sure everyone would love if they gave it a chance.
1. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
A thorough masterpiece from the year of 2004, directed by Michel Gondry, starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. It follows Joel, who becomes devastated from the fact that his girlfriend Clementine decided to erase her memories of him after their breakup. He then decides to do the same thing too, but soon regrets it. I watched this film yesterday and it truly is something. From its amazing characters, that manage to invest you in the story as much as possible, to its smart plot and wonderful soundtrack. It indeed is a film that gets made once in a blue moon. It made me think about relationships, the way you affect your significant other. How heartbreaking it can be to devote yourself to one person and then to be betrayed by him or her. This movie manages to capture the sad part of the relationship perfectly. It saddened me, managed to make me smile and everything a good movie is supposed to make you feel.
"I wonder if the things that remind me of you, remind you of me."
