Best Vocalists of the 80's, 90's, 00's and Beyond. Part 1
The 90's were filled with pop icons and cookie cutter images. Sometimes it took away from the actual talent of some of these artists. So into what these rising stars were wearing, we forgot what brought them to stardom in the first place. Their voices. Their voices transcended, they soared, and they brought upon feelings of love, lust, hate, and spite.
Growing up in the 90's, I spent a lot of time listening to Celine Dion, though she started in the 80's, because she happened to be my mothers favorite singer. It wasn't long before she was mine as well. To this day, I don't think there will ever be anyone as great as she...except for maybe Christina Aguilera, but that's if she doesn't go off and have a melt down A'la Britney/Whitney. But I digress, this Hub is about great vocalists in the 80's, 90's and 00 with a splash of some new vocalists that have taken the world by storm. I'm not talking theatrics like Lady Gaga, I'm speaking real soulful heart wrenching vocals that will pull at the heartstrings.
We start with Numero Uno.
1. Celine Dion.
She just goes without saying. Amazing is the best way to describe her. She started out in Canada unable to speak English, but with hard work and determination became one of the most recognizable artists in the states.
2. Whitney Houston.
Known for her powerful vocals and her she was dubbed one of the most exciting new voices in the 80's. She is still considered one of the most talented vocalists of her time, but do to certain issues in her personal life, she lost prominence in her later years.
She had a comeback album, which did very well world wide, but her tours where bombarded with criticism. Mainly due to the loss of her golden voice. Sadly this amazing voice was put to rest February 2012 at the tender age of 48.
3. Mariah Carey
One of the most recognizable singers of her day, Mariah was loved and is still loved today. With her sweet yet powerful vocals, she captivates and awes her audience. Her most recognized feature being her control over the "whistle register." She recently gave birth to twins with her husband entertainer Nick Cannon.
4. Sade Adu
Helen Folasade Adu, better recognized as Sade, is a birtish singer-songwriter that gained international success with the group Sade in the 1980s.
She recently came out with a new album after years of being out of the public eye. She, as one of her most famous songs dictates, is a smooth operator.
5. Christina Aguilera
Ms. Aguilera, one of my favorite singers of my generation, started out on the mickey mouse club with fellow pop icons Britney Spears and ex-N'sync crooner, Justin Timberlake.
Known for her powerful lungs and her soulful executions, she's referred to as the "blue eyed soul singer." You can now see her as a judge and mentor on ABC's The Voice.
Stay tuned for PART 2!
