Blood-soaked and Mind-blowingly Savage Action Sequel that Fascinates

It’s an armed to the teeth, unrelenting and impeccably choreographed ‘gun-fu’/‘car-fu’ that though breathlessly violent, chose to do almost all of its surgically precise stunts on the ground. ’John Wick: Chapter 2’ is precision personified coz it never missed a bit or a shot as it racked up headshots after headshots just coz it can—like a ‘trigger-happy’ energizer bunny.

‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ is a rarity in Hollywood in that like its predecessor, it’s an action film that doesn’t rely on heavy doses of CGI and disorienting, almost nauseating ‘shaky camera’ effect which unfortunately defines modern action films. It actually makes use of practical effects, expertly choreographed long action sequences and stylized, visceral stunts with barely any close-ups. You can actually follow what was happening in every scene because it was expertly shot and that Keanu actually did majority of the stunts. Additionally, it’s also a rarity because even though it’s a sequel, it actually is as compelling if not more engaging than the original. And that’s very hard to do but ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ was able to achieve this herculean feat by not only digging deeper but also getting bigger.

It delved a little bit deeper into the inner workings of The Continental, the sophisticated criminal underworld that John constantly tries to escape from but to no avail. Furthermore, the action sequences and stunts got noticeably bigger and more explosive yet they were executed with deft and precision regardless of the scope and against breathtaking sceneries mind you.

John is back with a vengeance!

It was, for the most part, an unrelenting and breathtaking display of violence that tested the limits of what action films can be and should be. For the most part, because it slowed down quite a bit as the movie took time to explore the ludicrous and intricate shadowy underbelly of The Continental. But not so much as the exploratory scenes were broken up in just the right length to make them more like necessary ‘breathers’ in between high-octane action sequences.

Symphony of Violence

‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ is everything you want from a blood-soaked action sequel: It’s explosive, gratuitous and mind-blowingly savage! It’s every action movie aficionado’s wet dream! Plus, you finally get to see how John kills people with a pencil! A f*cking pencil! I mean who the f*ck does that? That scene alone is worth the price of admission!
