Updated on January 13, 2019

Kara Skinner believes in changing the world through the power of books.

BookTube is a great place to share different ideas and opinions, and to celebrate the diversity of perspectives. To help with that are tags which allow BookTubers to defy BookTube culture and popular opinions.

So, for the rebellious reader who dog-ears their pages and sometimes prefers the movies to the books, this list is for you.

No Disclaimers Book Tag

The No Disclaimers Book Tag was created by the now-defunct Catalyst Reads. The point of the tag is to share a bunch of unpopular opinions without making a disclaimer saying you don't mean offense to people who think differently.

No Disclaimers Book Tag Questions:

  1. Which trope (or tropes) in books, annoy you the most?
  2. Which writer or writers do you feel are overrated/overhyped?
  3. What are your least favorite books you've read, since joining BookTube?
  4. A terrible ending, that ruined an otherwise quality book?
  5. Which Fictional Character(s) do you wish were not killed off?
  6. What are some of your bookish pet peeves?
  7. What are some books you feel should have more recognition?
  8. What are your thoughts on censorship, and banning books?
  9. Who do you tag?

TheBookArcher's Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

  2. A Popular Book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love.
  3. A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn ppl for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don't like.

Chami's Guilty Reader Tag

Guilty Reader Book Tag

The Guilty Reader Book Tag, created by Chami, is to admit reading habits you don't want to admit. Or maybe you're proud of these rebellious habits. Either way, it's a fun tag that helps show that you're human and not just a perfect reading machine.

Here are the questions:

  1. Have You Ever Regifted A Book That You’ve Been Given?
  2. Have you ever said you’ve read a book when you haven’t?
  3. Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?
  4. Have you ever read a series out of order?
  5. Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?
  6. Have you ever doggy eared a book?
  7. Have you ever told someone you don’t own a book when you do?
  8. Have you ever told someone you haven’t read a book when you have?
  9. Have you ever skipped a chapter or a section of a book?
  10. Have you ever bad mouthed a book you actually liked?

The Controversial Book Tag

This is for BookTubers who love to read dangerously. The Controversial Book Tag, created by iLivieforbooks, is all about celebrating banned and controversial books.

Here are the questions:

  1. What is the most controversial book you have read/own, and why?
  2. What is a book with a controversial cover or title?
  3. What is one of your favorite banned books? (Many lists from throughout the years are easy to find with a simple google search!)
  4. What is a book you bought/read after hearing so much controversy or constant talk about it?
  5. What is a controversial book to film/tv adaption? This can be anything from casting choices to plot changes.
  6. Keep people talking and tag some people!

The Bad Habits Book Tag

The Bad Habits Book Tag by Chapter Barbara isn't so much about the reader as about the books being read about. But one of the questions is lying about reading a book, which does fall into the rebellious and delightfully imperfect reader category.

Here are the questions:

  1. Binge drinking - An alcoholic book character
  2. Biting your nails - A book that made you nervous
  3. Unhealthy eating - a book that mentions (or for which the theme is) eating disorders
  4. Staying up late - A book you read into the night
  5. Procrastination - A book you want to read, but you keep putting it off
  6. Swearing - A book in which an author or a character uses colorful language
  7. Smoking - A book you can't get enough of (bc nicotine, get it?) OR a book that is literally cancer (you can answer both if you're an overachiever)
  8. Overspending - An expensive book you bought
  9. Lying - A book you lied about having read
  10. Speeding - A book you read really fast
