Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It

Updated on November 22, 2010

Life As Bret Knows It

Oh, Bret Michaels. What’s not to love about the dirty-minded rocker? The special, Bret Michaels: Life as I Know it on VH1, gives a peek into his home life with his girlfriend, Kristi Gibson, and their daughters Raine and Jorja. It’s always nice to see the softer side of celebrities, especially when former images of Bret involved him rubbing up against several blonde, chest-inflated star-chasers.

Bret & His Kids

The show was full of tender moments of Bret taking his daughter to the bus stop in a golf cart, making breakfast for his family, poking fun at his gassy 4-year old, and jumping on a giant trampoline with his kids. Jorja called Bret “boring” to which he replied, “Boring? I’m the second most exciting man in the world!” I’d really love to know who he would say is number one.

Not only is he a gentle soul with his children, but Bret was cordial to fans who asked for autographs while in line for go-carts. He could have told them to piss off since he was with his kids, but then again, there were cameras around and that’d be bad for business. However, I’d like to think he still would have taken pictures with those strangers no matter who was watching.

Anyway Bret is absolutely adorable with his children, especially when Raine interviewed him for her homework. She asked him questions about life as a rock star, and even acted out the time Bret got knocked out at the Tony Awards. Hilarious. She also suggested that Bret’s worst day at work was the time he had to “run off stage and poop in a bucket.” Bret denied the event, but the story had me laughing on my couch and that’s what it’s really all about.

Kristi And The Future

Kristi seems like a very down-to-earth lady, who tolerates Bret’s at-times immature behavior and appreciates his fatherly skills. The couple have been on and off since 1993, and they made the point of saying they were definitely broken up during his Rock of Love days. Kristi wants that man-whore lifestyle to be behind Bret and attempted to confront him about their relationship. Bret skillfully avoided the topic of commitment, but was sincere in saying that he doesn’t want to hurt his family in any way. Can a friendly skankman like Bret be content keeping it in his pants while he’s on the road?

Speaking of leaving, it was the saddest thing ever to watch little Jorja cry when Bret had to go to the airport. After he left, she put on a bandana and demonstrated her interpretation of the Bret Michael’s limp/pimp walk. Does it get any cuter?

Bret surprised the family again by coming back for his day off. The episode closed by explaining that his tour started two days after filming that episode. In April, he had an emergency appendectomy, a brain hemorrhage two weeks later, followed by a minor stroke. These health problems brought him back home for a little while. In May 2010, he won Celebrity Apprentice and appeared on the finale of American Idol before hitting the road again. It is unclear if there will be more episodes of this show in the future.

The one thing this show reiterated is that Bret Michaels is the nicest guy, even when he’s not sticking his johnson in every stripper within 100 mile radius.
